Job summary

Read Jones Christoffersen Ltd. is seeking a Building Envelope Engineer or Technologist for our Edmonton team. You will assess and design building enclosures, from evaluation to construction, collaborating with project engineers and technicians to deliver practical, energy-efficient solutions.

You will perform site investigations, prepare reports and drawings, and contribute to retrofit strategies. A Building Science background and energy modelling experience are valued in an employee-owned firm

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in civil or structural engineering with Building Science focus
• Asset: College Degree/Diploma in Building Science
• Registration or eligibility for APEGA/ASET is required or preferred

Candidate Profile

The Building Envelope Engineer or Technologist will work as an active team member with Project Engineers and Technologists within project teams, from the evaluation and assessment of building structures and enclosures into the design stage and through to its construction. The successful candidate is a self-motivated, fast learner with a desire to continually learn and grow and has a passion for Building Science. A commitment to providing exceptional client services and developing technical expertise to deliver practical, creative solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Site investigation and evaluation of existing and new building enclosures
• Preparation of reports and studies
• Preparation of drawings and specifications for various building enclosure projects
• Design and analysis of exterior wall and roofing systems to determine effective repair alternatives
• Work with a Project Engineer/Technologist within the project team environment from conceptual and preliminary stages of the project design through to its completion
• Coordination with other engineering and architectural disciplines
• Contract administration/construction review while implementing the retrofit/rehabilitation work

Professional Qualifications & Experience

EDUCATION

• Civil Engineering Degree from an accredited university. Preference for those candidates with completed courses in Building Restoration, Building Science and Project Management
• College Degree/Diploma in Building Science considered an asset
• Registration, or eligibility for registration, with APEGA or ASET

EXPERIENCE

• 0 - 4 years previous experience in Building Science. Experience in a consulting firm environment considered an asset.

SKILLS

• Committed to client service and technical excellence
• Understanding of building envelop systems and envelop thermal modelling (UFFI, Therm, etc.)
• Understanding of energy efficiency assessments
• Understanding of lifecycle cost analysis
• Understanding of Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Previous jobsite experience and trade skills highly desirable
• Team player with ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Fast learner with a keen eye for detail and the desire to grow professionally and personally
• Inquisitive, clear thinker who can determine what is required and can draw rational conclusions from available information
• Hard worker, ready to assume responsibility quickly and have fun at the same time
• Demonstrated effective communication skills - both written and verbal
• Ability to conceptualize in three dimensions
• Aptitude for working with existing facilities and comfortable working at heights
• Valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle
