RJC Engineers is a well-established, employee-owned firm specializing in building science, restoration, and energy modelling across Canada and the United States. The Edmonton team seeks a Building Envelope Engineer or Technologist to contribute to evaluation, design, and construction phases of enclosure projects.

As an active team member, you’ll engage with project engineers, explore new technologies, and grow professionally in a fast-paced, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • Civil Engineering Degree from an accredited university. Preference for Building Restoration, Building Science and Project Management courses.
  • College Degree/Diploma in Building Science considered an asset
  • Registration, or eligibility for registration, with APEGA or ASET

Responsibilities

  • Site investigation and evaluation of existing and new building enclosures.
  • Preparation of reports and studies.
  • Preparation of drawings and specifications for building enclosure projects.
  • Design and analysis of exterior wall and roofing systems for repairs.
  • Collaborate within project team from concept through construction.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Contract administration/construction review.

Candidate Profile

The Building Envelope Engineer or Technologist will work as an active team member with Project Engineers and Technologists within project teams, from the evaluation and assessment of building structures and enclosures into the design stage and through to its construction. The successful candidate is a self‑motivated, fast learner with a desire to continually learn and grow and has a passion for Building Science. A commitment to providing exceptional client services and developing technical expertise to deliver practical, creative solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Site investigation and evaluation of existing and new building enclosures
  • Preparation of reports and studies
  • Preparation of drawings and specifications for various building enclosure projects
  • Design and analysis of exterior wall and roofing systems to determine effective repair alternatives
  • Work with a Project Engineer/Technologist within the project team environment from conceptual and preliminary stages of the project design through to its completion
  • Coordination with other engineering and architectural disciplines
  • Contract administration/construction review while implementing the retrofit/rehabilitation work
Professional Qualifications & Experience
Education
  • Civil Engineering Degree from an accredited university. Preference for those candidates with completed courses in Building Restoration, Building Science and Project Management
  • College Degree/Diploma in Building Science considered an asset
  • Registration, or eligibility for registration, with APEGA or ASET
Experience
  • 0 - 4 years previous experience in Building Science. Experience in a consulting firm environment considered an asset.
Skills
  • Committed to client service and technical excellence
  • Understanding of building envelop systems and envelop thermal modelling (UFFI, Therm, etc.)
  • Understanding of energy efficiency assessments
  • Understanding of lifecycle cost analysis
  • Understanding of Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Previous jobsite experience and trade skills highly desirable
  • Team player with ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Fast learner with a keen eye for detail and the desire to grow professionally and personally
  • Inquisitive, clear thinker who can determine what is required and can draw rational conclusions from available informationdicons>... jury>...
  • Hard worker, ready to assume responsibility quickly and have fun at the same time
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Ability to conceptualize in three dimensions
  • Aptitude for working with existing facilities and comfortable working at heights
  • Valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle
