Candidate Profile

The Building Science Project Engineer will work as an active team member within project teams, from assessment, conceptual, and preliminary stages of the project design through to its completion. The successful candidate is experienced in leading their own Building Science projects, is self‑motivated, and has a desire to continually learn and grow. A commitment to providing exceptional client service and developing technical expertise to deliver practical, creative solutions is key. Salary: $90,000 - $110,000.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work independently or with a Design Engineer within the project team to take a project from the preliminary conceptual stage through the construction and project close‑out stages.
  • Liaise and coordinate directly with developer and architectural clients as building enclosure consultant for new and adaptive re‑use building projects.
  • Conduct thermal and hygrothermal analysis of building enclosure materials, components and assemblies.
  • Build envelope detailing and review building envelope details in architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Be aware of the designer’s influence on constructability and project costs.
  • Perform construction field review while projects are under construction.
  • Carry out preliminary site investigations and detailed evaluations of existing buildings.
  • Prepare evaluation reports, studies, and project budgets.
  • Develop drawings and specifications for rehabilitation and deep energy retrofit projects.
  • Design and analyse to determine effective repair alternatives.
  • Prime consulting, coordinating with other engineering and architectural disciplines.
  • Review and analyse bids submitted by contractors.
  • Administer contracts for rehabilitation and deep energy retrofit projects.
  • Understand the responsibilities and preview of each respective design discipline and construction trade.
  • Engage in contract negotiations and dispute resolution.
  • Spearhead designs, chair meetings, act as client liaison, and work with contractors to analyse solutions to unforeseen conditions during construction.
Professional Qualifications & Experience
Education
  • Degree in Civil Engineering – Preference may be given for candidates with completed courses in Building Science.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng).
Experience
  • 7 – 10 years of building science experience.
  • Experience in a consulting firm environment considered an asset.
  • Experience in the construction industry considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated supervision of 2 or 3 EITs / engineers / technologists considered an asset.
