Job summary

BPA is seeking an Electrical Building Technician in Canada to work on a major aerospace client project. The role focuses on AutoCAD design, drafting, and field surveys of existing installations in active, complex environments.

You will interpret existing conditions to develop practical solutions, collaborating with engineers and project managers. Ideal candidates have a DEC in electrical engineering or related field, 5–8 years of building electrical systems experience, and strong AutoCAD skills.

Qualifications

• College diploma (DEC) in electrical engineering, electrotechnology, or a related field.
• 5 to 8 years of experience in building electrical systems or a similar environment.
• Strong experience in AutoCAD design and drafting.
• Experience conducting field surveys in existing buildings (essential).
• Experience in industrial or institutional environments (strong asset).

Responsibilities

• Produce and modify electrical drawings and diagrams (distribution, lighting, auxiliary systems) using AutoCAD
• Contribute to the design of technical solutions adapted to existing buildings
• Update as-built drawings
• Ensure drawings comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements
• Conduct technical site surveys (measurements, equipment inventory, validation of existing installations)
• Analyze existing conditions and document discrepancies or constraints
• Collaborate with engineers and project managers to integrate field data into designs
• Occasionally participate in site meetings
• Work closely with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, architectural, etc.)
• Maintain effective communication with the client and on-site stakeholders
• Support the project team in resolving technical issues

About The Position

As part of projects carried out for a major client in the aerospace industrial sector, we are seeking an Electrical Building Technician with strong experience in AutoCAD design as well as field surveys of existing installations.

The selected candidate will primarily work in an active and complex environment requiring rigor, autonomy, and the ability to thoroughly understand existing conditions in order to develop appropriate solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Technical Drafting

• Produce and modify electrical drawings and diagrams (distribution, lighting, auxiliary systems) using AutoCAD
• Contribute to the design of technical solutions adapted to existing buildings

Profile

Education & Experience

• College diploma (DEC) in electrical engineering, electrotechnology, or a related field
• 5 to 8 years of experience in building electrical systems or a similar environment
• Strong experience in AutoCAD design and drafting
• Experience conducting field surveys in existing buildings (essential)
• Experience in industrial or institutional environments (strong asset)

Technical Skills

• Excellent proficiency in AutoCAD
• Good knowledge of building electrical systems, including:
• Low and medium voltage power distribution
• Lighting and control systems
• Equipment power supply
• Solid understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications

Assets
