Job description

Commercial Landscaping & Snow and Ice Management

Location: Gatineau/Ottawa
Employment: Full-time, permanent
Reports to: Vice-President, Operations

Ready to take the lead and show what you can build? Strathmore Landscape Management is looking for a driven Branch Manager to lead our Ottawa–Gatineau operations. This is your opportunity to shape a strong team, raise the bar on service, and deliver results that get noticed.

You’ll be the face of Strathmore in the region: equally at home in the field with your crews as you are reviewing the numbers. You’ll oversee commercial landscape maintenance, enhancements, and snow and ice management, building strong client relationships and working hand in hand with head office.

The branch’s operational and financial performance is yours to own. You’ll have room to make smart local decisions and the backing of a third-generation company with proven systems, clear standards, and a head office team ready to support you. If you thrive on accountability, execute with consistency, and want to show what you can accomplish with the right tools behind you, we want to hear from you.

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and a performance bonus.
  • Group insurance and a group RRSP, subject to eligibility.
  • Company vehicle.
  • The opportunity to lead an established branch and shape its performance and growth.
  • Support from operations leadership, HR, finance, sales, fleet, quality, and health and safety.
  • Training and professional development opportunities.
Your Responsibilities
Branch Performance & Business Planning
  • Lead branch performance, managing budgets, profitability, P&L results, and operational KPIs.
  • Develop and execute branch business plans in collaboration with leadership.
  • Monitor labour productivity, operating costs, and contract margins, turning insights into measurable improvements.
  • Keep leadership informed of results, emerging risks, and resource needs, coordinating approvals and support when required.
Seasonal Operations
  • Lead summer and winter readiness planning, ensuring staffing, training, equipment, materials, and service plans are in place before each season.
  • Oversee workforce capacity, scheduling, routing, and equipment allocation to meet contractual commitments efficiently.
  • Maintain a regular presence on client sites to support supervisors, assess service quality, and resolve operational issues.
  • Coordinate responses to snow events, equipment failures, staffing shortages, and other service disruptions.
  • Lead, coach, and develop your branch team, setting clear responsibilities and performance expectations.
  • Partner with HR on recruitment, retention, performance management, succession planning, and employee development.
  • Build a respectful, accountable team that prioritizes safety, communication, and consistent service delivery.
Clients, Growth, Quality & Safety
  • Build strong client relationships, resolve escalated concerns, and support contract retention and renewals.
  • Partner with sales and Account Managers on proposals, pricing, and opportunities to grow the branch profitably.
  • Ensure consistent application of company quality standards, health and safety requirements, and operational procedures.
  • Work with quality and safety teams on audits, field training, and corrective actions.
  • Use operational systems and performance data to track results, address recurring issues, and improve execution.
What You Bring
  • At least 7 years of progressive experience in commercial landscaping, snow and ice management, property services, or a comparable field-based industry, including substantial experience leading teams and managing operations.
  • Proven experience managing budgets, financial performance, labour productivity, and operating costs.
  • Strong understanding of seasonal operations, workforce planning, scheduling, and equipment requirements.
  • A record of improving service quality, team performance, and profitability.
  • Strong coaching, communication, problem-solving, and client relationship skills.
  • Initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to turn plans into action while working collaboratively with leadership and support teams.
  • Confidence using operational systems, KPIs, and financial reports. Experience with Aspire, Fleetio, or Geotab is an asset.
  • Bilingual communication skills in English and French to support employees and clients across Ottawa and Gatineau.
  • A valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel regularly between branch locations and client sites.

This position requires a regular presence at the branch and on client sites throughout the Ottawa–Gatineau region.

During winter operations, occasional availability outside regular business hours—including nights and weekends is required to coordinate service delivery and respond to significant snow events or operational issues.

What Success Looks Like
  • Summer and winter operations are prepared and staffed on time.
  • The branch meets its financial and operational targets.
  • Clients receive consistent service, and concerns are resolved promptly.
  • Supervisors and teams understand their responsibilities and develop their capabilities.
  • Quality, safety, and operational standards are consistently upheld.
