NE Renewable Power operates 7 biomass electric generating power stations in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Sprague brings over 150 years of energy operating experience and is hiring a Boiler Plant Operator for the Tamworth, NH location.

Major Duties / Responsibilities
  • Start-up, operate, shutdown and secure equipment under normal and emergency conditions, in the field.
  • Troubleshoot and perform artisan level mechanical skills such as pipefitting, boiler repair, pump, motor and coupling alignment.
  • Inspect all facility machinery for malfunctions and potential failures.
  • Maintain logs and records to document operating conditions and report irregularities.
  • Assist in water chemistry tests and control treatment chemicals within recommended limits. Repair and calibrate equipment as required.
  • Identify hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices, notify supervisor and take corrective action as required.
  • Control, monitor and evaluate plant production equipment and output, including efficiency and related variables, and overall operation procedures.
  • Monitor control readings (temperature, pressure, flow, etc.) and respond to variances to ensure safe, reliable and cost-effective power generation while maintaining environmental standards.
  • Perform routine and complex maintenance work (as described) and participate in advanced maintenance activities.
  • Develop operating and maintenance procedures to ensure safe operation.
  • Conduct or assist in scheduled and forced outage maintenance work.
  • Supervise, coordinate or assist contractors working at the facility.
  • Comply with Environmental, Health and Safety policies and programs.
  • Maintain logs/records of problems, repairs and downtime as required.
  • Participate in committees and task forces for plant operations and improvements.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining preventative maintenance and spare parts inventory tracking.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
Education / Experience / Skill Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver\'s license
  • Basic computer/data entry skills
  • Basic math, good verbal communication, and proficiency with power and precision tools
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and cooperate with others
  • Understand hazards and safety precautions for power plant equipment and machinery
  • Ability to respond to audio alarms
  • Commitment to safety practices and procedures
  • Team player with willingness to contribute to business challenges
  • Successful completion of applicable pre-employment drug testing and background checks
Work Environment
  • Environmental or atmospheric conditions typical of the job
  • 80% indoor; 20% outdoor
  • Moderate to high noise
  • Respond to plant emergencies/call-ins on holidays or weekends as applicable
  • Smoking restrictions in and around the facility
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to wear PPE including respirators, fall protection, hard hats, safety shoes, and safety glasses
  • Ability to work in elevated areas, confined spaces and in extreme temperatures
  • Repetitive motions as required
  • Ability to hear alarms and detect changes in noise levels
  • Ability to pass a respirator physical and fit test (if applicable)
