Job summary

Alberta Municipalities seeks a benefits operations professional to support the Benefits Department in delivering high-quality services to our members, maintaining service levels, and helping members make informed choices about their benefits programs.

This maternity leave replacement (12-15 months) requires a highly organized, team-oriented individual with strong knowledge of group benefits and solid communication with plan administrators and participants.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business or related field.
  • CEBS, GBA, or other designation is an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in a TPA or Benefits Consulting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of group benefits and products including life, health, dental, and disability, with ability to interpret policy wording.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exemplary customer service to promote the benefits program values.
  • Maintain strong relationships with participating members and administer day-to-day enrollment and adjustments.
  • Respond to participant enquiries timely and accurately across varying knowledge levels.
  • Administer onboarding and changes to ongoing benefits programs.
  • Produce monthly invoices reflecting changes in status of participants.
  • Promote products and services and identify evolving client needs.
  • Support development and delivery of communications on benefits design and delivery.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure timely plan design changes.

Job description

Reporting to the Director, Benefits Operations, this position plays a key role by representing the Alberta Municipalities Benefits Department within a team of professionals delivering benefits services to our members. Maintenance of the quality of service provided to participants and potential participants will be of the highest degree, providing members with confidence that they have made, or will make, the right choice in selecting Alberta Municipalities as their Benefits Program provider.

This is a 12-15 month maternity leave replacement.

Know-How
Practical/ Technical Knowledge
  • Post-secondary or degree or diploma in Business or related field
  • Certified Employee Benefits designation (CEBS), Group Benefits Associate (GBA), or other relevant designation is an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in a Third Party Administrator (TPA) or Benefits Consulting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of group benefits and products, such as basic group life, health, dental, and disability insurance with the ability to interpret policy contract wording
Planning, Organizing and Integrating
  • Highly organized and positive individual, who is team-oriented;
  • Intermediate level experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to use third party computer based customer data files and records
Communicating and Influencing Skills
  • Ability to promote services to clients in a compelling and persuasive manner.
  • The ability to interact with plan administrators to identify their concerns and needs in respect to employee benefits and related services;
  • High level of integrity, with a sense of urgency and results orientation.
Responsibilities
  • Apply exemplary customer service skills that promote Alberta Municipalities’ vision and values;
  • Maintain strong existing customer relationships and ensures participating members and potential participants receive the highest level of customer service through day-to-day administration of the program;
  • Respond appropriately to enquiries from participants in a timely and accurate manner, while recognizing that the individual municipal program administrators will have varying levels of knowledge, ability, and authority;
  • Administer ongoing enrollment and adjustments and Implement new and changing employee benefits programs in a courteous and efficient manner;
  • Produce monthly invoices on a timely basis that accurately reflect changes in status of program participants;
  • Encourage and promote products and services at every opportunity and identify emerging or changing client needs;
  • Provide information in support of development and delivery of an ongoing communications program to keep participants informed of developments regarding design and delivery of benefits services;
  • Maintain effective customer focused working relationships with other providers of products and services related to effective delivery of the benefits program;
  • Ensure plan design changes are completed in a timely manner by coordinating with all stakeholders involved;
  • Ensure that challenges and opportunities regarding service delivery processes and member needs are identified, assessed, and made known;
  • Facilitate and deliver onsite or virtual plan administrator/employee information visits and annual regional plan administrator information sessions
