Job summary

TD Insurance is seeking an Associate Vice President, Product & Underwriting for Small Business Insurance in Toronto. The role leads Product and Underwriting across Commercial Property, Casualty and Automobile, shaping strategies to drive profitable growth and exceptional customer experience.

The AVP will align product, underwriting, pricing, and risk with business priorities, working across pricing, actuarial, reinsurance, risk, and distribution to deliver outcomes.

Qualifications

• Senior leadership experience in General Insurance with deep knowledge of Small Business Insurance, Product and Underwriting.
• Experience developing and executing product and underwriting strategies that drive profitable growth.
• Strong understanding of actuarial principles, pricing, portfolio management, risk governance and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the Product and Underwriting strategy and roadmap for Commercial Automobile and Commercial Property & Liability.
• Lead development of new products and regularly assess the existing portfolio to support growth, profitability and customer needs.
• Monitor market, industry and competitor trends and translate insights into strategic product and underwriting decisions.
• Own commercial policy contract wordings and provide coverage interpretation to business partners and stakeholders.
• Establish and maintain underwriting strategies, rules and manuals aligned with risk appetite, pricing strategies and business objectives.
• Monitor portfolio performance and adjust underwriting approaches based on profitability, risk and market conditions.
• Oversee complex referrals, renewals, escalations, large total insured value accounts and emerging business segments.
• Ensure timely, high-quality underwriting decisions and delivery against referral, renewal and service-level commitments.
