Job summary

Summit Air, based in Yellowknife, NT, is seeking a licensed Avionics Technician (AME-E) to provide day-to-day maintenance and troubleshooting on avionics for large transport aircraft, ensuring safety and airworthiness.

You’ll join a safety-focused, collaborative team, enjoy growing autonomy, and work with a diverse fleet including ATR 42/72 and RJ85/Bae 146; this resident-based role may include rotation with flights, accommodation, and per diem provided by the company.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ licensed Avionics experience required.
  • Transport Canada AME ‘E’ License.
  • Experience on large transport category fixed-wing aircraft; preference ATR 42/72 and RJ85/Bae 146 series.
  • Extensive knowledge of aircraft systems.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with good quality workmanship.
  • Excellent listening and communication, ability to work within a timeline.
  • Proven organizational and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performs day-to-day on-aircraft Avionics troubleshooting and repair tasks.
  • Maintains avionics systems: communications, navigation, autopilot, Pitot-static, radar, AC & DC power distribution and aircraft lighting.
  • Executes installations on aircraft.
  • Operates avionics test equipment including air data test sets, navigation/communications testers, and other electronic test equipment.
  • Ensures all maintenance activities conform to airworthiness standards.
  • Ensures paperwork for tasks is complete and accurate before submission to Crew Chief.
  • Reports SDR situations to Crew Chief and troubleshoots faulty systems for rectification.

The Opportunity

You are a licensed Avionics Technician (AME-E) with a background in large fixed wing aircraft. You are looking for an opportunity that leverages your experience and gives you more autonomy. In this role, you will provide day-to-day maintenance and troubleshooting support on aircraft Avionics.

This role is intended to be resident-based. In some cases, rotational schedules may be considered depending on operational needs and business requirements. For employees on rotation, Summit will provide all flights, accommodation, and per diem.

What you’ll do
  • Performs day-to-day on-aircraft Avionics troubleshooting and repair tasks
  • Performs maintenance checks on Avionics systems including but not limited to communications, navigation, autopilot, Pitot-static, radar, AC & DC power distribution and aircraft lighting
  • Carries out various installations on aircraft
  • Operates Avionics test equipment including air data test set, navigation and communications, ATC ramp testers, and other electronic test equipment
  • Performs all maintenance activities in accordance with the applicable standards of airworthiness
  • Ensures all paperwork for assigned tasks is complete and accurate before submitting to Crew Chief
  • Identifies possible Service Difficulty Report (SDR) situations and reports to Crew Chief
  • Troubleshoots faulty systems to determine a course of rectification
Qualifications

  • Weeks 3–6: Supervised line familiarisation on Summit Air’s aircraft types, with mentorship from a senior AME.
  • By 90 days: Full integration into the maintenance schedule, with autonomy appropriate to your licence and experience.
