Job summary

Big Country Equipment Repair LTD in Timmins, Ontario, seeks an experienced Heavy-Duty Technician to diagnose and repair mining and construction equipment. You will work in a shop and occasionally in the field, performing maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics with CAT SIS or ET tools.

Applicants should have 3+ years of relevant experience, valid provincial trade certification (preferred), and strong diagnostic skills across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, transmission, and drivetrain systems.

Qualifications

  • Three or more years diagnosing and repairing heavy or off-road equipment.
  • Valid provincial trade certification preferred for Heavy Duty Equipment Technician.
  • Experience with mining equipment preferred; construction, forestry, or other off-road experience considered.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy mining and construction equipment.
  • Perform shop repairs on multiple equipment types and brands.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, transmission, and drivetrain issues.
  • Repair or replace transmission components and drivetrain parts.
  • Use diagnostic software and testing equipment to identify repairs.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance and unscheduled work orders.
  • Prepare accurate service reports and test repaired equipment.

Job description

Location: Timmins, Ontario

Base Rate: $ 62.50/hr.

OT: 4 hours daily, paid out at $93.75/hr.

Schedule: 14X14 - 12-hour days

Night Shift Premium: $1.25/hr.

Accommodations: Company housing is provided at no additional cost

Flights Paid: Yes, fly into the location from any major airport in Canada

Tools Provided: Tools will be provided

Travel Time: Paid to and from the site daily and at each end of your set

Meal Allowance: $60 per day.

Big Country Equipment is a BC-based heavy equipment service and repair company that works with resource-based customers in the construction, forestry, mining, and oil and gas sectors in Western Canada. Big Country Equipment was formed in 2017. We have grown rapidly from a one-truck operation to over 200 employees and a fleet of over 55 fully equipped service trucks, serving customers throughout Western Canada 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy mining and construction equipment.
  • Perform shop repairs on multiple equipment types and brands, including graders, loaders, excavators, and haul trucks.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, transmission, and drivetrain issues.
  • Repair or replace transmission components, differential gears, driveshafts, and related drivetrain components.
  • Use computerized diagnostic software, testing equipment, and technical information to identify required repairs.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance, preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs, and unscheduled work orders.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed service reports.
  • Test repaired equipment to confirm safe and proper operation.
  • Recommend required repairs and opportunities to improve equipment reliability.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, customer-site requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain all required trade certifications, licences, and site training.
  • Report to work fit for duty and prepared to complete assigned field-service work safely.
  • All related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Three or more years of recent experience diagnosing and repairing heavy or off-road equipment.
  • Comfortable working in a shop environment; there may be occasional opportunities to go out into the field.
  • Field-service experience will be considered an asset, ideally working independently from a service truck.
  • A valid provincial trade certification as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician is preferred.
  • Licensed Truck and Transport Mechanics or Agricultural Equipment Technicians may also be considered when they have relevant heavy-equipment repair experience.
  • Red Seal certification is an asset but is not required for candidates who hold a valid provincial trade certification recognized in the province where they will work.
  • Experience repairing mining equipment is preferred; however, strong construction, forestry, agricultural, or other off-road equipment experience may also be considered.
  • Experience with Caterpillar mining equipment is preferred; but other brand experience such as Komatsu, Hitachi, or John Deere will also be considered.
  • Experience repairing surface drills, electric shovels, or hydraulic shovels is an asset.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, transmission, and drivetrain systems.
  • Experience using CAT SIS and ET and other computerized diagnostic software and testing equipment.
All Successful Candidates Must
  • Be proficient in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Provide at least two references from previous direct supervisors.
  • Complete a criminal record check. Minor or unrelated offences will not necessarily disqualify a candidate and will be reviewed individually.
  • Provide a five-year driver’s abstract that is acceptable for the position. Minor infractions will be reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis.
  • Successfully complete an eight-panel drug test, including marijuana, and an alcohol breath test.
  • Be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Be seeking direct employment. Subcontractor opportunities are not available for this position.
