Job summary

Magna International in Brampton, Ontario, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to advance body-in-white tooling and 3D design. You will perform hemming studies, coordinate tool design, and work with suppliers and internal teams to meet project milestones.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree/Diploma/ Certificate of Qualification and/ or applicable design experience.
  • Minimum 3 years CAD, Catia V5 or Unigraphics NX experience
  • Mechanical design (3D solid & complex surfacing) and detailing experience
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Power Point and ACAD
  • Automotive assembly and Body-in-White experience
  • Hemming experience an advantage.
  • Stamping die experience an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Execute hem studies.
  • Present hem studies to Customer, explaining process, concerns, and issues.
  • Perform hemming snap studies, flange recommendations and define hemming process.
  • Open hem model coordination.
  • Forecast upcoming hemming projects for suppliers (purchased components, outsource suppliers, internal manufacturing, design sources).
  • Plan and purchase long lead items to meet project timeline requirements.
  • Manage hemming tool design with external design and manufacturing resources to meet project timeline requirements.
  • Hold hem tool design reviews internally and with customer.
  • Working with project teams, release hemming tools for manufacture.
  • Work with and support dimensional, robot and shop floor departments with hem tool build, integration and commissioning.
  • Upload open hem model and hem tool designs to Teamcenter.
  • Create spare parts lists, hemmer documentation and hem binders.
  • Understand and follow customer standards and procedures.
  • Create hemming standard work procedures as necessary.
  • Responsible for getting customer sign off for 3D machining for all hemming systems.
  • Work with sales validate and define hemming processes and highlight concerns for prospective work.
  • Work with sales to quote, source and supply hemming related spare parts.
  • Support and drive assembly simulation initiative through the entire process.
  • Perform assigned tasks in a safe manner.
  • Consult your manager if you are not 100% sure how to perform tasks in a safe manner.
  • Follow all safety rules, standards and procedures at all times in all areas.
  • Ensure that your work area is kept clean, tidy and organized at all times to prevent accidents and produce quality products.
  • Report all unusual circumstances and actively participate in and support Continuous Improvements.
  • Follow all ISO Standard Operating Procedures to ensure world-class quality products are supplied to our customers.
  • Perform other related duties as required
