Job summary

CPA Alberta is seeking an Associate, Secretariat to support the Associate Director, Secretariat in regulatory technologies processes and in supporting the Office of the Registrar. The role includes coordinating compliance for corporate registrants and assisting with registration and renewals from Calgary or Edmonton.

The position requires strong problem solving, attention to detail, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

  • Three years of progressive experience in a professional environment.
  • Post-secondary education would be an asset.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
  • Knowledge of SharePoint and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use sound judgement to identify and resolve problems as they arise.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage corporate registrant compliance related to ongoing professional liability insurance requirements, annual renewals, practice review requirements, and outstanding fees.
  • Communicate with registrants regarding compliance deficiencies and recommend suspensions or cancellations in accordance with CPA Alberta’s governing legislation.
  • Respond to registrant inquiries and provide guidance, documentation, and correspondence related to compliance and registration matters.
  • Assess registration and re-registration applications, evaluate eligibility requirements, and prepare recommendations for approval.
  • Process deregistration requests and maintain accurate registration records and databases.
  • Prepare reports, assessments, and updates for management and regulatory decision-making.
  • Monitor the accuracy and completeness of corporate registrant data and records.
  • Coordinate system testing activities, document issues, track resolutions, and support deployment readiness.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to support regulatory operations, process improvements, and business system enhancements.
  • Maintain and update procedure manuals and operational documentation.
  • Support Office of the Registrar functions during peak periods, including compliance reviews, audits, renewals, and reporting activities.
  • Assist with research, data analysis, presentations, regulatory communications, and newsletter content management.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director, Secretariat

The Associate, Secretariat is responsible for supporting the Associate Director, Secretariat in regulatory technologies processes and developments and in supporting the Office of the Registrar. This position is also responsible for supporting the Corporate Registrations & Compliance Team with the registration and compliance process of professional accounting firms, professional corporations, and professional service providers (collectively referred to as “Corporate Registrants”). This role reports to the Associate Director, Secretariat.

CPA Alberta has offices in Edmonton and Calgary and provides hybrid Telecommuting opportunities (working from home a maximum of 3 days a week).

What you bring
