Job summary

Business Development Bank of Canada seeks an Associate Manager, Growth and Transition Capital to support analytics and account management in tech and other sectors. You will extract financial data, prepare documents, and contribute to the transaction team's success.

The role emphasizes financial modeling, market research, SWOT evaluations, and due diligence to develop financing offers and monitor accounts, with strong emphasis on collaboration and client service.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, economics, or finance, or the equivalent.
  • A master’s degree is a major asset.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the financial services sector.
  • Knowledge of the technology industry is an asset.
  • Professional designation (CPA-CA, CPA-CMA, CPA-CGA, CFA, or CBV/EEE) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of mezzanine financing or the private equity market is a plus.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to defend, summarize, and illustrate analyses in a presentation format, tailoring content to the audience.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, combined with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to growth of Growth Capital and Business Transfer by conducting financial analyses and modeling.
  • Conduct market research within technology companies, compare analyses, and perform market value analyses and forecasts.
  • Assess SWOT analysis for a client or industry to evaluate risks.
  • Receive, review, evaluate proposals, perform due diligence, and develop offers for financing.
  • Ensure close and ongoing monitoring of Growth Capital accounts.
  • Identify opportunities for Financing and Consulting groups and stay aware of network capabilities.
  • Contribute to portfolio development by managing transactions, contracts, and negotiations.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Associate Manager, Growth and Transition Capital provides analytical, statistical, and account management support to the transaction team by extracting various financial data and preparing a wide range of documents related to operational and financial activities in the information technology sector and other diverse industries.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET
  • Contribute to the growth of BDC’s Growth Capital and Business Transfer group by conducting detailed financial analyses and modeling based on historical and projected financial results.
  • Conduct market research within technology companies or other industries, compare analyses, compile data, and perform various market value analyses and financial forecasts.
  • Assess the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT analysis) associated with a specific client or industry to evaluate inherent or potential risks.
  • Receive, review, and evaluate service proposals to determine their viability, conduct due diligence, and, where appropriate, develop an offer for Growth Capital or Business Transfer financing, in accordance with BDC’s standards and procedures.
  • Ensure close and ongoing monitoring of Growth Capital and Business Transfer accounts and their sound management.
  • Ensure that all client needs are met by identifying opportunities for BDC’s Financing and Consulting groups and by staying abreast of the network’s capabilities and expertise.
  • Contribute to the development of BDC’s Growth Capital and Business Transfer portfolio by managing transactions, contracts, and negotiations related to the group’s activities.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, economics, or finance, or the equivalent.
  • A master’s degree is a major asset.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the financial services sector.
  • Knowledge of the technology industry is an asset.

  • Good judgment regarding financing methods, handling requests, and maintaining client relationships.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, combined with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Bilingualism in both spoken and written French and English is an asset.
