Job Overview

Under the Store Manager supervision, the Assistant Store Manager performs the following duties:

Typical Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Oversee, direct, and assist in store and restaurant operations
  2. Follow up on cashier settlements, store promotions, and shift coverage
  3. Communicate directly with the department managers on their department issues, concerns, and achievements
  4. Interact with personnel on a human resources level regarding schedule needs, communications, and reviews
  5. Walk sales floor to monitor/interact with customers and employees
  6. Greet customers and maintain good customer relations regarding transaction inquiries, compliments/complaints, and special requests
  7. Review daily sales and monitor daily labor changes
  8. Coordinate training schedules of new hires with department managers to ensure effective instruction
  9. Read and respond to Manager’s reports on important matters, relaying content to relevant staff
  10. Identify areas for service improvement and implement processes or procedures to address these issues
  11. Conduct daily visual inspections of the perimeter and inquire with staff about the facility to ensure maintenance and proper functioning
  12. Ensure safety & security of the store and staff
  13. Lead staff efforts to ensure productivity and high-quality customer service
  14. Report malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate personnel
  15. Develop and execute merchandising plans, including creating attractive displays and promoting new and sale items to meet sales and profit goals
  16. Support the Store Manager in developing strategies to improve product placement and appearance
  17. Perform staff duties as needed
  18. Serve as a role model, fostering a positive attitude among employees
  19. Write incident reports for accidents or other incidents involving employees or customers, following company procedures
  20. Handle emergencies, crises, and daily operational problems
  21. Develop and train future leaders, ensuring employees are properly trained
Qualification Guidelines
Experience
  • Prior experience as an assistant store manager, department manager, or equivalent is required
Knowledge
  • Proficiency in English (reading and writing at an advanced level)
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook), excellent customer service skills, and basic math proficiency
Ability
  • Demonstrate leadership and customer service skills
  • Model excellent service and hold staff accountable
  • Be prepared to cover breaks when needed
  • Place service calls and liaise with vendors and contractors
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
  • Lift grocery, bulk, produce items up to 100 times per day
  • Carry items from carts or dollies to shelves (less than 3 ft)
  • Push/pull carts and dollies, electric pallet jacks
  • Stand, walk frequently, and bend/twist regularly
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. often
Special Requirements
  • Availability to work various shifts as needed
  • Availability to work at all store locations as required
