Role Overview

The Assistant or Associate Actuary supports the Canadian IFRS17 valuation process and other projects related to the Appointed Actuary function. Responsibilities include developing valuation models, reviewing assumptions, and communicating with stakeholders. The role involves coordinating quarterly reporting, leading financial analysis, and supporting regulatory and audit interactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate quarterly IFRS17 reporting activities, including data loading, assumption updates, and regulatory filings.
  • Lead quarterly MD&A earnings analysis, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Assist in preparing the annual Appointed Actuary Report for the enterprise and subsidiaries.
  • Support communication with auditors, regulators, and consultants on IFRS17-related deliverables.
  • Implement annual changes, lead modeling projects, and improve processes for ongoing value creation.
  • Conduct data analysis for experience studies and contribute to assumption setting.
  • Maintain actuarial process documentation in line with standards and legislation.
  • Stay updated on financial reporting and regulatory developments, assessing their impact.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across departments.
  • Manage and mentor actuarial staff and interns.
Qualifications
  • Recently qualified FCIA with relevant life insurance experience and at least 3 years in the field.
  • Knowledge of Canadian valuation, capital requirements, and regulations.
  • Strong analytical, modeling, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in AXIS, Risk Integrity, DataLink, Excel, and VBA.
  • Understanding of Canadian and US life insurance products.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across disciplines and levels.
  • Experience in developing junior staff is a plus.
