Job Summary

Hospitality Services is responsible for planning, developing, managing, and implementing food, nutrition, and environmental activities, programs, services, and initiatives for residents of a municipal long-term care facility.

You will assist the cook in preparing all food served, including general menus, special diets, meals-on-wheels, and Day Care Resident's meals, emphasizing resident safety and engagement. Work is performed in accordance with Public Health regulations, the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, and the Food Premises Act.

Education and Experience
  • Completion of Grade ten (10) and the Assistant Cook Certification program (15 weeks)
  • One (1) year of cooking experience in an institutional, healthcare, restaurant, or hospitality setting
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of the Canada Food Guide, Ontario Public Health Act, Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, and Food Premises and Sanitation Code
  • Preparation of bulk foods, vegetables, meats, fish, poultry, soups, sauces, desserts, buffet, and entrees
  • Food inventory control and safe operation of kitchen tools
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation
Skills and Abilities
  • Organize work, work under deadlines, follow directions, and be self-motivated
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely, follow recipes, control waste, and maintain hygiene standards
  • Work well in a team, be flexible, alert, dependable, and respectful of residents’ rights and privacy
Desirable Qualifications
  • Bilingualism is an asset
  • Certified as an Assistant Cook by the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities
Additional Information
  • Language requirement: English (oral, reading, writing)
  • Police Record Check: Vulnerable Sector Check required; under 18, a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters check
  • Experience and formal training may substitute for academic requirements
