Elby Professional Recruitment is assisting a well-established Canadian business seeking an Assistant Controller to join their finance team in Mississauga. You will support the CFO with month-end close, prepare financial statements, and lead the Staff Accountant while collaborating with a Financial Analyst and senior leadership.

You bring CPA designation or near completion, 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and ERP/Advanced Excel skills.

Qualifications

• CPA designation or near completion.
• Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong GAAP knowledge.
• Experience with an ERP system and advanced Excel skills.
• Supervisory or mentoring experience is an asset.
• Experience in inventory-driven or asset-heavy business, or multi-site or cross-border reporting is an asset.

Responsabilités

• Close and reporting: support timely, accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements (GAAP), including journal entries, reconciliations, schedules and consolidated packages.
• Variance analysis: partner with the Financial Analyst to explain results against budget and prior periods for senior leadership.
• Accounting operations: keep banking, AP and AR running accurately, and act as the escalation point for complex accounting questions.
• Controls and compliance: strengthen internal controls, support tax and regulatory reporting, and bring process improvements to the CFO.
• Audit: support year-end audit preparation and auditor requests.
• People: supervise, coach and review the Staff Accountant.
• Business partnering: work with operational teams so financial data stays accurate, and support budgeting, forecasting and special projects.
