Elby Professional Recruitment is assisting a reputable agriculture-industry client in Ontario seeking an experienced Controller to lead financial operations, reporting, budgeting, and controls. This hands-on role reports to senior leadership and drives process improvements in a growing organization.

The successful candidate will bring a CPA, a Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance, 5+ years of accounting leadership, and strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • CPA designation is required.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with leadership experience.
  • Experience with financial statement preparation and month-end close.
  • Budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis experience.
  • Advanced Excel and financial reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations including payables, receivables, payroll and general ledger.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports and month-end packages.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Provide leadership to accounting team members.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of internal controls and procedures.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial planning.
  • Oversee treasury functions and monitor financial trends for risk and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and tax requirements.

Our client, a reputable company in the agriculture industry, is seeking an experienced Controller to join their growing organization. Reporting to senior leadership, this role will oversee financial operations, reporting, compliance, budgeting, and process improvement initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with strategic analysis in a dynamic and evolving business environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting organizational growth, strengthening financial processes, and providing valuable business insights.

Work Arrangement: Fully on-site in the Perth region of Ontario.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, and general ledger activities
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and month-end reporting packages
  • Support and coordinate month-end and year-end close processes
  • Provide guidance and leadership to members of the accounting team
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of internal controls and financial procedures
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
  • Responsible for all treasury functions
  • Monitor financial trends, identify risks, and recommend process improvements
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and tax requirements
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA designation is REQUIRED
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including several years of people leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience with financial statement preparation and month-end close responsibilities
  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and financial reporting tools
  • Experience in manufacturing, agriculture, or an inventory-based business is an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Effective communicator with the ability to build relationships across multiple business functions
