Overview

The Asphalt Quality Control Technician supports commercial excellence and operational performance for the Greater Calgary Asphalt market. The role involves designing and submitting compliant asphalt designs, ensuring economical and easy placement for customers, and providing quality control checks throughout production. Responsibilities include plant adjustments, monitoring raw resources, and ensuring correct binders are used to maintain compliance. This seasonal position encourages Civil Engineering students to apply.

Responsibilities
Safety
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety policies and standards.
  • Reinforce Lafarge safety standards and ensure 100% compliance.
  • Lead safety initiatives through proactive engagement.
Operational Performance
  • Manage daily asphalt quality control activities in Calgary.
  • Support Quality Control Supervisor to meet objectives.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze quality data.
  • Collaborate on KPI tracking and benchmarking.
  • Support plant personnel to deliver high-quality products.
  • Work with supply team to ensure raw material quality.
Commercial Excellence
  • Understand customer requirements and build effective relationships.
  • Coordinate with operational teams to provide excellent customer service.
Reporting
  • Assist in tracking mix optimization and recycling percentages.
  • Prepare monthly production reports and summaries.
Relationships with Others’ Jobs
  • Manage Quality Control personnel.
  • Communicate with plant operations, sales, and after-sales teams.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma, preferably in Engineering, C.E.T, or equivalent.
  • Relevant experience or education considered.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Technical knowledge of construction materials.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, flexible.
  • Computer literate and good negotiator.
