Job summary

Strathcona County is hiring hourly Arena Operator II positions across Strathcona Olympiette Centre, Ardrossan Recreation Complex and Moyer Recreation Centre. You will support guest services, help with ice maintenance and facility operations to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for visitors and staff.

Candidates should have a High School Diploma with 2 years of related experience; municipal experience is an asset. Availability in the evenings and weekends is required.

• Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Be present throughout the facility and is the primary contact for arena guests.
• Lead daily activities, assisting peers with tasks and resolving operational issues.
• Model a high level of service with internal and external guests.
• Interact and build relationships with guests and staff, providing options and solutions for guest requests.
• Follow procedures during emergencies, guest incidents, and ice plant issues.
• Set up recreation facilities and support guests, bookings and events.
• Carry out housekeeping to ensure the facility is clean and safe.
• Safely operate the ice resurfacer and arena maintenance equipment.
• Prepare and clean arenas for ice-making and sport court installation; operate spray park in summer.

Job description

The hourly Arena Operator II provides guest service and supports the operation of rural recreation facilities through inspections, facility preparation, ice maintenance, ice resurfacing, and event support, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for guests and staff.

This posting is for multiple hourly positions at: Strathcona Olympiette Centre, Ardrossan Recreation Complex and Moyer Recreation Centre.

Key Responsibilities:

• Be present throughout the facility and is the primary contact for arena guests
• Conduct daily activities in a leadership role, assisting peers with the completion of tasks and resolving operational issues
• Model a high level of service with internal and external guests
• Interact and build relationships with guests and other staff through friendly and courteous interactions and provide options and solutions for guest requests
• Follow operational procedures in response to facility emergencies, guest incidents, and ice plant mechanical issues
• Set up recreation facilities and provide service and support for guests, bookings, and special events
• Carry out regular housekeeping duties to ensure the facility is clean and safe for guests
• Safely operate the ice re-surfacer and arena maintenance equipment to maintain safe, high-quality ice surfaces
• Prepare and clean arena facilities for ice-making, sport court installation as well as operate, monitor, and maintain the recirculating spray park during the summer season

Qualificationsand Skills:

• High School Diploma with 2 years related experience
• Previous municipal experience is an asset
• Knowledge of facility programs and activities, and day-to-day facility operations, including basic ice plant operations, ice making and maintenance, re-surfacer operations, and safe work practices
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Excellent customer services skills and the ability to positively interact with facility guests using strong conflict resolution skills
• Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently
• Ability to work evenings and weekends

Conditions of Employment:

• Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
• Obtain a current and valid Intermediate First Aid certification prior to the completion of training
• Submission of Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
• Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
