Job description

Founded in 1989, AFD Petroleum is a leading independent supplier of fuel, lubricants, and storage solutions across Alberta, B.C., Yukon, and Alaska. With 35 years of experience, we’re committed to delivering reliable service, innovative solutions, and lasting value, centered on our people, our customers, and our communities.

Job Summary:

Our Area Managers keep AFD's branches running. This role owns the full branch, splitting time between sales — prospecting new clients, growing existing accounts, and hitting sales targets — and day-to-day operations, including staffing, inventory, dispatch, and safety compliance. You'll lead a branch team, keep freight and fuel inventory moving, and act as the connection point between the branch and Head Office. If you like the mix of sales, people leadership, and hands-on operations, and want a role where your decisions directly move the needle, this is your role.

Your Schedule:

Full-time, interim position, typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., based out of the branch location. Occasional overtime or work outside regular business hours may be required based on operational needs, along with travel to worksites and customer premises.

Why AFD:
  • Great health and insurance benefits - medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, AD&D - because we believe in taking care of yourself.
  • Discount on fuel.
  • Career development.
  • Paid orientation & training.
  • Personal/Sick Paid Days.
What you will do day-to-day:
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new clients through prospecting, and grow relationships with current clients.
  • Meet or exceed sales targets, and prepare and deliver sales presentations, proposals, and contracts.
  • Plan and direct daily branch operations, including managing staff, schedules, and workload distribution.
  • Recruit, train, and onboard new hires with support from Human Resources & Safety.
  • Monitor staff performance, complete performance reviews, and enforce progressive discipline as needed.
  • Review and maintain inventory procedures, fuel levels, and stocking; identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Respond to maintenance needs, perform fuel audits, and coordinate cardlock/tank farm inspections and repairs.
  • Dispatch fuel trucks when the dispatcher is off shift, and communicate freight delays or variances.
  • Lead or attend weekly safety meetings, enforce HSE policies, and create incident reports as needed.
  • Participate in budget planning for volume, revenue, truck utilization, and forecasting.
  • Keep communication open between the branch and Head Office.
What you need to succeed: (Required education and experience)
  • High School Diploma required; post-secondary degree in Business Management preferred.
  • 5+ years' experience in a senior management role, including supervisory experience.
  • Strong sales instincts, with a track record of building and growing client relationships.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills, and sound decision-making under pressure.
Extra skills and Knowledge:
  • Experience working with major fuel providers is considered an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and e-mail.

As part of the interview process, all candidates will undergo successful completion of pre-employment requirements, including a criminal record check, driver's abstract review, and employment reference verification, and an offer will be contingent upon the successful pre-employment checks.
