Job summary

AFD Petroleum Ltd. is seeking a Driver Trainer to shape drivers responsible for safe fuel and lubricant deliveries across our network. You will assess new hires, run field orientation, and retrain current drivers while supporting safety meetings and inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Train new candidates with limited or no experience in loading, unloading, and handling liquid bulk equipment, fuel, and lubricants.
  • Conduct and document required classroom and behind-the-wheel training for drivers, and retraining as needed.
  • Perform ongoing annual and post-collision driver evaluations.
  • Assist in new candidate selection through pre-employment checks.
  • Lead, coach, and motivate trainees throughout the training program.
  • Develop, update, and continually improve training and assessment programs with the HSE Team.
  • Work with operations to ensure a consistent training process for all trainees.
  • Review FLHAs identified by drivers and identify corrective action or alternative solutions.
  • Keep site maps updated and flag current hazards a driver may encounter.
  • Support the recruitment process by sharing industry and equipment knowledge, engaging candidates directly, and assisting at industry events.
  • Adhere to and advocate for all corporate policies and procedures in the field.
  • Adapt to changing work priorities and training schedules as operational needs require.

Job Summary:

Our Driver Trainer shapes the drivers who keep AFD's fuel and lubricant deliveries running safely across our network. Reporting to the HSE Field Advisor and working closely with the transportation department, you'll evaluate new hire candidates, run field orientation training for newly hired drivers, and re-train and re-certify current drivers. You'll also step in to evaluate drivers as part of corrective action following incidents, support all new hires and long term drivers, lead drive r safety meetings, follow up on FLHAs, and take part in customer site inspections. Coordinating refinery tests load (between 3-10 loads) for new hire driver, with emphasis on product handling, refinery policy/procedure, pump operations and compliance with AFD Petroleum SJP for delivery to customer tanks and AFD storage & card locks.If you know what good, safe commercial driving looks like and enjoy coaching others to get there, this role puts that experience to work.

Your Schedule:

Full-time, core hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Because training happens alongside our drivers, hours will vary with operational and route needs, some days may run as early as 7:00 a.m. or as late as 8:00 p.m. to match the schedule of the driver being trained. Regular travel to AFD branch locations, customer sites, refineries, and delivery routes across the assigned region is a core part of this role.

What you will do day-to-day:

What you need to succeed: (Required education and experience)
  • High School Diploma.
  • Valid Class 1 Driver's License.

Extra skills and Knowledge
  • Fuel experience or CFA is an asset.
  • Refinery badges are an asset.
  • Prior driver training experience is an asset.
  • Familiarity with area roadways, delivery routes, and applicable provincial and federal transportation legislation.
