Position Overview

A regular full-time opportunity exists within our Bylaw Services Department for an Animal Services Coordinator. This is senior level investigative and regulatory work, enforcing animal control and protection regulations and bylaws and investigating more serious complaints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the operation of the animal shelter program and veterinary services.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the contracted sheltering providers and other veterinary service providers.
  • Plan, assign, review, and supervise staff.
  • In collaboration with the Chief Bylaw Officer, prepare and monitor budgets, revisions to bylaws, policies, and procedures.
  • Interpret and explain bylaws, regulations, and statutes.
  • Perform office administration duties, including statistical information collection, invoice approval, timekeeping, and payroll verification.
  • Develop community outreach programs in collaboration with the Senior Animal Services Officer.

The work involves considerable public contact which requires the exercise of independent judgement, action, tact, diplomacy, and decision making as to the disposition of complaints within policy, bylaw, and regulation limits.
