Crafty Penguins is growing our team! We are hiring a full-time Linux Systems Specialist - Senior to collaborate with our growing team and serve our expanding customer base.

This role requires creative problem-solving skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong customer relationships. A willingness to learn and adaptability are essential.

We are a Linux, Open Source, DevOps, and Kubernetes consulting company utilizing various tools to assist clients across many industries in areas such as server support, infrastructure design, cloud management, data backups, network security, disaster recovery, and more. Crafty Penguins is based in Lethbridge, Alberta. However, this position is fully remote.

You have
  • Advanced knowledge of Linux-based operating systems
  • Advanced networking knowledge
  • Experience debugging Unix-based OS and IP networking at a low level
  • Proficiency with RHEL or Debian-based Linux distributions
  • Good knowledge of debugging container workloads and runtime tooling (LXC/Docker/Podman)
  • Experience with Linux hypervisor systems (KVM, Xen/XCP-ng, Proxmox, etc.)
  • Strong scripting skills in Bash and Python
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in Linux consulting or contracting
  • Experience using ticketing systems like ConnectWise
  • Skills in performance tuning, debugging, and clustering Linux database systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite)
  • High-level networking skills (VLANs, VPNs, managed switches, overlay networks, routing protocols)
  • Software development experience in various languages
  • Certifications such as AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, RHEL, etc.
  • A 2-year technical diploma (CIS or CS) or higher
