The Lead Field Service Engineer - Drives, under general guidance and minimal supervision, performs a wide range of engineering tasks and ensures proper installation, service, and commissioning of products and services. Provides technical support for installation and commissioning of projects and offers maintenance, breakdown emergency support, and remote troubleshooting.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform troubleshooting activities at site locations to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implement corrective actions.
- Develop documentation to execute work, e.g., commissioning procedures, maintenance procedures, daily logs, etc.
- Perform installation and commissioning activities at customer site locations.
- Work independently and lead small teams.
- Manage onsite project activities and provide technical leadership to resolve customer issues and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Perform engineering tasks to ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of GE drive systems under the guidance of a senior engineer.
- Develop presentations and provide training to customers on drive operations.
- Coordinate with the customer service team, parts, other FSEs, repair services, sales, and product engineering teams to identify additional opportunities.
- Advise customers on upgrades, parts, and services to improve productivity and promote GE parts and services.
- Coordinate maintenance activities and plan inspections.
- Support engineering teams on customer CMU projects and bidding processes.
- Identify new opportunities and develop offerings to improve equipment reliability and availability.
- Promote sales of maintenance services.
- Complete service reports and administrative tasks promptly.
- Support business growth and marketing campaigns.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Provide on-call support in response to customer service calls.
- Ensure appropriate response and service quality.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution, or an Associate degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Minimum 5 years of field service and / or commissioning experience.
Eligibility Requirements
- Canadian Citizenship with the ability to obtain security clearance for DND projects.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for extended periods.
- Physical fitness to board offshore vessels.
- Ability to pass HUET and offshore survival training.
- Willingness to travel up to 85% on short notice.
- Work environment involves exposure to construction site conditions, including noise, weather, electrical hazards, and mechanical risks, with PPE required.
Preferred Characteristics
- At least 3 years of experience with GE Drive systems, including MV7000, SD7000, MV3000.
- At least 2 years of experience with GE Power Conversion drive / system controllers, including PEC, PECe, CDC.
- Strong engineering skills, creativity, and judgment ability.
- Expertise in installation and commissioning of drive systems.
- Proficiency in MS Office and technical aptitude.
- Customer-facing experience in a service environment.
- Ability to prioritize and organize work effectively.
- Experience working onboard vessels and offshore environments.
- Willingness to work extended hours during peak periods or emergencies.
