Job description

Mino Obigiwasin Anicinape Child and Family Services was established to provide child and family services to its population. This follows an agreement signed with CISSSAT for the management of youth protection for the four Anicinape communities: Kitcisakik, Lac Simon, Abitibiwinni (Pikogan), and Long Point (Winneway). Mino Obigiwasin's vision is to ensure that all Anicinape children and families have a stable, safe, happy living environment rooted in their culture.

JOB SUMMARY

In accordance with the mission, orientations, values, and general policies of Mino Obigiwasin Child and Family Services Anicinape, and under the authority of the post-majority coordinator, the Anicinape Social Worker provides support and guidance to Indigenous youth (ages 16-25, inclusive) who have been in youth protection and are transitioning out of that system to help them become independent and responsible adults. They make sure that services are offered in accordance with an Anicinape approach and mode of communication, particularly concerning language, vocabulary, intonations, silences, non-verbal cues, and the concept of time. They possess a good understanding of the people, families, and the functioning of the community, while demonstrating a willingness to understand and respect the culture. They also contribute to raising awareness and educating both internal and external agents about the Anicinape way of life, while ensuring the protection and appreciation of their cultural heritage.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Help and support young people in their journey towards autonomy and the realization of their life plan by conducting necessary follow-ups to achieve the goals agreed upon with them;

• Participate in the observation, evaluation, and analysis of the behaviors of young people in their daily activities to better understand their needs and abilities, and contribute to defining the objectives and means that promote their success;
• Intervene with young people in a voluntary context, respecting their right to accept or refuse the help offered by the program, in an approach characterized by welcome, openness, and non-judgment, regardless of their background;
• Promote the support program within the communities and relevant organizations, notably through awareness-raising and promotional activities;
• Provide young people with holistic learning and development opportunities that encourage cultural revitalization, strengthen identity, and reconnect with their community, from a perspective of cultural safety;
• Coordinate and support the implementation of cultural activities and provide the necessary support to promote the cultural safety of young people;
• Refer users to appropriate resources based on their needs and act as an intermediary with them when required;
• Participate in required training sessions and keep knowledge and skills up to date to promote continuous improvement of practice;
• Perform any other tasks required for the position.

REQUIREMENTS

• Be from the Anicinape community;
• Class 5 driver’s license.
