Job summary

Thumbtack is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to architect and maintain impactful learning programs for field enablement. You will partner with SMEs, PMs, and frontline leaders to analyze needs, outline objectives, and build scalable solutions that drive performance and outcomes.

You will apply ADDIE/SAM models and adult learning theory, integrating AI-enabled content and assessments. A strong portfolio and independent project ownership are essential.

Qualifications

• 4–6 years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or performance consulting.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating ownership of complex learning programs and modalities.
• Solid expertise in instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM) and adult learning theory.
• Hands-on experience with AI tools (Claude/OpenAI) to build asynchronous content.
• Strong project management and stakeholder partnership skills, able to own projects end-to-end.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Ops and communicate design rationale.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end instructional design for complex, high-impact learning programs, managing needs analysis to evaluation across multiple initiatives.
• Design learning ecosystems including social, experiential, and digital reinforcement based on 70/20/10 and performance consulting principles.
• Partner with SMEs and stakeholders to translate goals into effective learning strategies and identify tradeoffs.
• Develop assessments and evaluation plans measuring effectiveness across Kirkpatrick Levels 1–3 and tie insights to business performance.
• Contribute to content governance, peer review, and design standards to ensure quality and scalability across programs.
• Use AI tools to craft asynchronous learning content and iterate on design fidelity.
