Job summary

The Town of Newmarket is seeking an Animal Services Officer for urgent after-hours response. You will handle calls about animals in distress, capture and transport to care, and provide temporary housing for wildlife under supervision.

Requires a college diploma and strong communication skills; a valid Class G license and a reliable vehicle are needed for corporate business use. Applications accepted until 2026-12-31.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma in animal care or related field or equivalent experience required.
• Experience handling and restraining various animals; after-hours responsivity is needed.
• Experience with wildlife is an asset; ability to de-escalate difficult situations.
• Strong oral and written communication; report writing and documentation accuracy required.
• Proficiency with MS Office and related software; Police Vulnerable Sector Check required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to after-hours calls for animals in distress and provide urgent care.
• Capture, restrain, transport animals to veterinary care as needed.
• Provide temporary housing and care for wildlife eligible for rehabilitation; humane euthanasia when required.
• Complete necessary reports and maintain detailed notes for each incident.
