About this role

The Loomex Group is seeking candidates for the position of Airport Operations Specialist for the Renald Y Beaulieu Greenstone Regional Airport (CYGQ), with occasional support shifts at the R. Elmer Ruddick Nakina Airport (CYQN). Both Airports are based in the Municipality of Greenstone.

Reporting to the Airports Manager, this position will support the day-to-day operations and site safety of the airport. What you’ll do

  • Manage the airport’s day-to-day safety management system and compliance programs, as well as other regulatory matters.
  • Execute a work program in accordance with Transport Canada regulatory requirements and industry best practices, including emergency response, wildlife management, winter maintenance, and the operation of all aerodrome maintenance equipment.
  • Operate the following equipment: loader, snow blower, and single and tandem axle trucks for winter and summer maintenance activities.
  • Use and perform minor maintenance on chainsaws, hand, and power tools.
  • Conduct minor and preventative maintenance of airfield electrical systems, including preventative maintenance requirements for the job site.
  • Undertake below-wing activities, including but not limited to aircraft marshalling, aircraft ground handling, baggage/cargo handling, and aircraft de-icing.
  • Perform minor maintenance of airfield equipment in a safe and professional manner.
  • Attend and participate in airport training and safety programs. Perform airfield/runway inspections, wildlife inspections, and control.
  • Actively participate in the safety management system.
  • Assist with emergency response and security.
  • Provide aerodrome advisory services to air traffic and escort persons/vehicles airside.

What you’ll bring to the table

  • A strong sense of teamwork, reliability, and trustworthiness.
  • Grade 12 secondary school education.
  • A valid “G” driver’s license is a requirement.
  • Communication skills (written and verbal) to respond to customers and interpret instructions and procedural manuals.
  • Experience with operations preferred; previous experience in airports is considered an asset.
  • Ability to analyze situations and problem-solve effectively.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work standing for periods of time.

Qualifications considered an asset

  • Aviation management and/or training courses.
  • A valid “D” driver’s license with “Z” brake endorsement or an AZ license is considered an asset.
  • A heavy equipment operator’s certificate is an asset.
  • Equipment maintenance knowledge, 421A/310T is an asset.
  • General construction skills are an asset.

Working conditions

  • Full-time permanent position; 40 hours per week, completed in 10-hour shifts.
  • Winter hours may vary (based on snowfall) with potential for call-outs and overtime.
  • Benefits include an annual health spending account and a clothing and boot allowance.
