Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) within Health Shared Services is looking for an innovative and collaborative Instructional Design and Developer to help shape safety learning across Alberta’s healthcare system. In this role, you will design, curate, and manage an extensive library of safety training content that directly contributes to safer workplaces for our frontline workers and leaders. WHS strives to provide high-end educational content that assists in keeping our workforce safe while meeting organizational policy and Occupational Health and Safety legislation. As part of the WHS Training and Program Improvement (TPI) Team, you will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary group that works collaboratively with diverse subject matter experts to deliver critical training support. Description

As an Instructional Design Developer on the WHS TPI team, you will bring your instructional design expertise to various portfolios within WHS to assist in the creation of impactful educational and legislative content. You will work closely with our communications and development teams to ensure that all digital assets and learning programs meet Health Shared Services communications and branding standards. Collaboration is at the heart of our work, and you will actively participate in broader TPI team and project meetings to align your design direction, share best practices, and integrate valuable insights from ongoing discussions. Additionally, as an engaged member of the wider WHS community, you will contribute to provincial team meetings, workshops, and activities. This includes delivering presentations, supporting peer learning, representing the team, and participating in overall team-building efforts to foster a supportive work environment.

Required Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must possess extensive experience in instructional design that blends education, communication, and multimedia skills to apply adult learning principles intentionally. Because our team is responsible for both the conceptual design and technical development of our courses, you must deeply understand the underlying principles of both phases to create meaningful, effective learning experiences. You must also demonstrate advanced proficiency in educational technology tools, such as Articulate Studio, Rise, and Storyline, bridging adult learning principles with innovative and meaningful digital delivery. Additionally, you need a strong background in graphic design to craft intentional, visually engaging layouts that enhance the overall learner experience. Your design work must establish an intuitive content flow and capture learner attention.

Additional Required Qualifications

You bring expertise in both synchronous and asynchronous learning methodologies, along with proven strategies for fostering active learner engagement. You excel at collaborating with partners and subject matter experts, using strong active listening, facilitation, and relationship-building skills to understand and incorporate diverse perspectives. You demonstrate sound judgement and critical thinking when evaluating feedback, balancing operational requirements, legislative obligations, copyright standards, and adult learning practices. Your technical toolkit includes full-cycle eLearning development, which encompasses scriptwriting, multimedia recording, and precise video and audio editing. You are highly skilled in managing digital assets within cloud or SharePoint environments, developing responsive mobile-friendly courses, troubleshooting technical issues, and utilizing SCORM Cloud to ensure Learning Management System compliance and automate testing for seamless deployment. To support and revise our existing suite of training assets, you possess hands‑on proficiency with the Articulate suite, Camtasia, Photoshop, and PowerPoint. Experience with auxiliary creative software such as Illustrator, and Visio is also required to generate fresh, visually polished course elements that make the complexity of workplace health and safety’s accessible to all.

Preferred Qualifications

An ideal candidate will hold a formal degree or certificate in Adult Learning or Education, with a specific focus on Workplace Learning. Specialized, advanced training in Articulate Storyline or comparable industry-standard instructional design software is highly preferred.
