Job summary

Peterborough Regional Health Centre is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) to lead acute pain management and drive excellence in patient care across the organization. The role emphasizes education, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice within a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

Required are a Master's in Nursing, current CNO registration, and at least five years of acute care experience with advanced pain management, including epidural, PCA and multimodal analgesia.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing and current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Minimum five years of acute care nursing experience, including surgical patients and pain management.
  • Experience with epidural, PCA, intrathecal and multimodal analgesia.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Experience delivering education to healthcare professionals in classroom and clinical settings.
  • Experience leading quality improvement or practice change initiatives.

Changes made to hours of work will follow the terms of the applicable collective agreement, company policy and/or legislation.WHAT YOU’LL DO:The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) provides expert clinical leadership in acute pain management while supporting excellence in patient care, education, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice. Working collaboratively with the interprofessional team, the APN provides consultation for patients with complex pain management needs, supports staff development, and leads initiatives that improve clinical practice and patient outcomes across the organization.WHAT YOU’LL BRING:Required:Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of OntarioMaster's degree in NursingMinimum five (5) years of recent clinical nursing experience in acute care, including experience with surgical patients and advanced pain management.Demonstrated experience managing patients receiving epidural, PCA, intrathecal, and multimodal analgesia.Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.Preferred:Additional education in adult education, leadership, quality improvement, implementation science.Experience developing and delivering education for healthcare professionals in both classroom and clinical settings.Leadership training or formal leadership certification.Active membership in relevant professional organizations (e.g., RNAO, CNA, CAPA, or other specialty associations).WHO YOU ARE:Expert knowledge of acute pain management, including epidural, PCA, intrathecal, and multimodal analgesia.Demonstrated excellence in advanced clinical assessment, critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and problem-solving.Strong leadership, coaching, mentoring, and change management skills.Ability to assess learning needs and develop, deliver, and evaluate education using adult learning principles.Knowledge of evidence-based practice, quality improvement methodologies, program evaluation, and knowledge translation.Ability to lead practice change and support implementation of clinical best practices.Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills with patients, families, physicians, nursing, and the interprofessional team.Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.Proficiency with electronic health records, Microsoft Office applications, and other clinical information systems.Ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across programs and departments.Commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and excellence in patient-centred care.Experience leading quality improvement, practice change, or clinical education initiatives.Experience presenting educational sessions or participating in research, program evaluation, or scholarly activities.Certification or advanced training in pain management, education, leadership, or quality improvement.This position is for a current vacancy.OUR COMMITMENT:At PRHC, we take great pride in maintaining an inclusive culture of respect and a diverse workforce that reflects the community we serve.
