Job summary

The Saskatchewan Health Authority invites applications for an Addictions Counsellor (Diploma) based at Sandy Bay Health Centre. You will work with the interdisciplinary team to support recovery through individual and group counselling, information sessions, and tailored treatment plans.

Preference for HSAS members under collective agreement and a recruitment incentive of $7500; travel and accommodations may be provided. Flexible two-week in, two-week out schedule is available.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year experience in addictions/mental health would be desirable.
  • Diploma in Mental Health & Addictions Counselling or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Provide informational programming as well as individual and group counselling sessions with clients.
  • Assess client needs and implement plans to help clients reach their goals.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team under the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions.

Job Description: As a member of the interdisciplinary team, and under the general direction of the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions, the primary goal will be to restore, maintain and enhance the recovery of people seeking help for addiction and/or addiction related issues by implementing various modalities of addiction recovery programs. Responsibilities include providing informational programming as well as individual and group counselling sessions with clients. This position will be expected to assess individual and group needs of clients and implement plans to help clients reach their goals. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS membersin accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

Experience

  • Minimum of one year experience in addictions/mental health would be desirable

Education

  • Mental Health & Addictions Counselling Diploma

Licenses

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

Competencies

  • Demonstrated skills w/ Addiction and Concurrent disorders assessment/counseling
  • Problem solving skills

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge in co-current disorders and issues related to gambling addictions
  • Knowledge of how addictions impacts the individual, community and families
  • Knowledge in best practices in addictions and harm reduction strategies
  • Knowledge in group dynamics
  • Knowledge in holistic addictions treatment model
  • Knowledge of screening and addiction assessment tools and procedures.
  • Knowledge Transtheoretical Model of Change
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to screen for addictions and/or addiction related symptoms
