Job summary

A&W Food Services of Canada is seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist to join our North Vancouver team. You will process supplier invoices, payment requests, and employee expense reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

This permanent full-time role offers a hybrid work schedule, CAD 57,000 to CAD 71,500 per year, and benefits including medical and dental, life insurance, pension contributions, wellness spending account, paid flex days, home workstation allowance and employee assistance

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of accounting experience, including hands-on accounts payable processing.
  • Grade 12 education minimum.
  • Strong Excel and accounting software understanding.
  • Experience with Netsuite and SAP Concur preferred.
  • Ability to handle high-volume transactions under deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Process supplier invoices, payment requests, and employee expense reports timely and accurately.
  • Support accounting through review of activities, accruals, and cutoffs.
  • Prepare financial statement analysis to monitor variances and forecasting.
  • Review supplier statements and resolve invoice discrepancies.
  • Prepare GL accruals, reconciliations, and audit working papers.

Job description

The Accounts Payable Specialist is responsible for processing invoices and expense reports, generating payment runs, supporting the accounting of the business, and preparing financial statement analysis to support continuous forecasting.

Responsibilities
  • Timely and accurate processing and payment of supplier invoices, payment requests and employee expense reports.
  • Responsible for supporting the accounting of the business, which includes reviewing business activities, invoices and accruals to ensure proper accounting and adhering to cutoffs and deadlines.
  • Responsible for completing financial statement analysis at each period end to identify any actual vs plan variances. Follow-up on any action items identified and track variances to support our continuous forecasting.
  • Reviewing supplier statements and contacting suppliers to promptly resolve invoice discrepancies.
  • Preparing accurate General Ledger accruals, reconciliations and audit working papers for assigned accounts.
Education and Experience
  • A minimum of a Grade 12 education and 2-3 years of accounting experience, including hands‑on accounts payable processing.
  • A solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles, proficiency in Excel, and an understanding of financial accounting software, and preferably experience with Netsuite and SAP Concur.
  • Experience with the payment run process and disbursements.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail in data entry, tenacity for follow‑up, and the ability to recognize and correct errors while handling a large volume of transactions within strict deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity working with collaborative technology software tools, such as the Google suite of products is an asset.

Starting from $57,000 to $71,500 (midpoint)* per annum.

*The midpoint of the role is intended for those demonstrating sustained successful performance in all accountabilities of the position.
