Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Dibenjikewin Onaakonikewin (KIDO) is seeking an Accounts Payable Clerk to manage day-to-day payables and help improve financial services across Thunder Bay, Sioux Lookout, or Big Trout Lake.

The role supports the finance team and requires 0–2 years of accounting experience with assets in Sage Intacct/Sage 300 and First Nation community experience; travel to KI First Nation may be required.

Qualifications

  • Accounting certificate or a bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration is considered an asset.
  • Entry level to 2 years or relevant accounting experience. Previous accounting experience in a First Nation Community is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience working with Sage 300 and/or Sage Intacct software is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience working within Child and Family Services departments is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Process Payables: Accurately process, verify, and post payments for invoices using Sage Intacct.
  • Vendor Relations: Monitor outstanding bills, resolve billing issues, and ensure timely payment of invoices.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, up-to-date files for reporting and audits, ensuring confidentiality of financial information.
  • Payment Processing: Prepare and process electronic transfers, including ACH, wire transfers, and check runs.
  • Expense Reports: Review, verify, and process employee expense reports for compliance with KIDO policies.
  • Reconciliation: Assist with reconciling accounts payable transactions, ensuring accuracy of the accounts payable ledger.
  • Reporting: Generate accounts payable reports for management review, including aging and payment status reports.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to company policies and regulations, updating procedures for the new accounting system.
  • Support Finance Team Members: Collaborate with team members, providing support during audits and the transition to Sage Intacct.
  • Account Analysis: Conduct detailed analysis of income statement accounts to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement. Implement similar analysis techniques in Sage Intacct.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the development and implementation of best practices within the accounts payable function, supporting other areas of process improvement where required.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Intermediate Accountant, Payroll Clerk, and other finance team members to ensure cohesive and efficient financial operations. Share knowledge and strategies for effective use of Sage Intacct.
  • Cross-Functional Assistance: Provide support in other areas of finance, including Accounts Receivable and Payroll, as needed. Assist team members in adapting to Sage Intacct.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and relevant regulations. Update compliance procedures to reflect the new accounting system.
  • Support Finance Projects: Manage projects as assigned by the KIDO Director, KIDO Intermediate Accountant and/or KIDO Finance Manager ensuring smooth integration of Sage Intacct into daily operations.

It is specific to KI Nation and is animportant exercise of Miinikozowin (inherent power) by KI and aims to restore kayaash egwa miinaahchaako kikinohamaakewinan (traditional and spiritual teachings of KI).

Position Summary

Reporting to the Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Dibenjikewin Onaakonikewin (KIDO) Intermediate Accountant, the Accounts Payable Clerk will be responsible for processing the day-to-day operations of organization’s Accounts Payable and working with the finance team to improve services to departments & locations.

This position may be located in either Thunder Bay, Sioux Lookout, or Big Trout Lake and will remotely support the financial operation of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation’s Family Law (KIDO). If based in Thunder Bay or Sioux Lookout, travel to Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation will be required.
