Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting and reporting for Western divisions across multiple entities.
• Lead the month-end close, including journals, accruals, reconciliations, and reporting.
• Manage IFRS 16 lease accounting, including ROUs, liabilities, disclosures.
• Own IFRS 16 lease conversion/implementation project.
• Review financial results, identify variances and unusual items.
• Oversee internal controls, reconciliations, audit support, and process improvements.
• Lead, coach, and develop accounting staff while hands-on with the function.
• Partner with Controller, FP&A, IT, and ops on cross-functional initiatives.
• Support ERP and other technology implementation projects.

Our client, a prominent transportation company, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join their team on a 9-month contract, with strong potential for the role to become permanent.

This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned accounting professional to take ownership of accounting for a significant business unit while playing a key role in a major IFRS 16 lease accounting implementation project.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, leadership experience, and the ability to quickly navigate complex systems and processes in a large organization.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee all accounting and reporting activities for the Western divisions across multiple legal entities
• Lead the month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting
• Manage IFRS 16 lease accounting, including lease assessments, right-of-use assets, lease liabilities, reconciliations, and financial statement disclosures
• Take ownership of the IFRS 16 lease conversion/implementation project, ensuring a successful and timely transition
• Review and analyze financial results, identifying unusual items, variances, and areas requiring attention
• Oversee internal controls, account reconciliations, audit support, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Lead, coach, and develop accounting staff while maintaining a hands‑on approach to the accounting function
• Partner with the Controller, FP&A, IT, and operational leaders on financial and cross‑functional initiatives
• Support ERP and other technology implementation projects

Qualifications:

• CPA designation is required
• Extensive IFRS experience, particularly IFRS 16 lease accounting
• Proven experience in a large, complex, or multi-entity organization
• Strong hands‑on general accounting manager experience with the ability to quickly understand complex systems, processes, and business operations
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to take ownership and work independently
