Job summary

Purves Redmond Limited, an established Canadian insurance brokerage, seeks an Accounting Assistant to support the Finance Department with reconciliation of insurance transactions and accurate recording of financial data. You will work with carriers, brokers, and internal teams to ensure timely invoicing, remittances, and month-end reporting within a values-driven, employee-owned firm.

Qualifications

  • College or bachelor\'s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in accounts payable, insurance accounting, or financial reconciliation.
  • Experience in an insurance brokerage or MGA environment strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles related to invoicing, payments and reconciliations.
  • Proficiency with Applied EPIC or other broker management systems, preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review and reconcile carrier statements to ensure premiums, commissions, payments, adjustments, and account balances are accurate and properly recorded.
  • Perform Direct and Agency Bill reconciliations, identify discrepancies, and assist with resolving variances in a timely manner.
  • Assist with reconciliations, including premiums, commissions, and carrier statements.
  • Prepare and process remittances to insurance companies and vendors in accordance with company policies and established timelines.
  • Validate remittance details and assist with bank confirmations, cash receipts, and cash application.
  • Prepare and issue client invoices assisting with billing-related inquiries and follow-up.
  • Resolve billing and payment discrepancies, including overpayments, missing transactions, and account variances, in collaboration with carriers and internal teams.
  • Maintain accurate records and supporting documentation for payments, reconciliations, and carrier balances.
  • Prepare reports and schedules to support month-end and year-end accounting activities, audits, and financial reporting.
  • Respond to accounting-related inquiries in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Follow established accounting controls, audit requirements, and regulatory standards related to payment and reconciliation activities.
  • Provide support and coverage for other accounting functions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Position Overview

The Accounting Assistant will provide support to the Finance Department, ensuring the accurate and timely reconciliation of insurance transactions, processing of financial information, and maintenance of accounting records. This role works closely with the accounting team and will have exposure to insurance carriers, brokers, and internal departments to support daily accounting and invoicing operations, resolve discrepancies, and contribute to the overall financial integrity of the brokerage.

Compensation

Purves Redmond Limited is committed to fair and transparent compensation practices. The base salary range for this role is $45,000–$55,000. This range reflects the expected hiring range for the position and may vary based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and overall fit. Additional compensation, where applicable, may include performance-based incentives, commissions, or bonuses.
