Job summary

Otter Co-op is seeking a Full-Time Accountant II for our Administrative Office in Langley, BC. Reporting to the Controller, you will lead month-end close activities, supervise a team of Junior Accountants, prepare monthly reconciliations, tax filings, and support year-end audits.

You will participate in budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow management, and help develop internal controls and reporting procedures while working with business leaders to guide decision-making.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years accounting experience.
  • University degree or 2-year college diploma, ideally with an accounting major.
  • Accounting designation or enrolled in an Accounting Designation program is preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and strong knowledge of Excel.
  • Experience with JDE or other ERP system considered an asset.
  • Understanding of Federal and Provincial tax application in a retail & petroleum sales environment is an asset.
  • Must work within strict confidentiality guidelines.
  • Ability to deal with a diverse and fast paced work schedule and to work with a sense of urgency.
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with a positive attitude and the ability to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead month-end and period-end close activities, including inventory and margin calculations, accruals, journal entries, and account analysis.
  • Supervise, mentor, and review the work of a team of Junior Accountants.
  • Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations, including bank, prepaid expense, and accounts receivable reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly tax filings and respond to tax audits and inquiries.
  • Coordinate year-end audit activities, including the preparation of working papers and reconciliations.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and related reporting.
  • Conduct internal audits, including physical inventory audits and compliance reviews.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and schedules.
  • Analyze financial results and variances, providing insights and recommendations to management.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management activities.
  • Develop and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting procedures.
  • Support system implementations and special projects as required.
  • Partner with business leaders to provide financial guidance and support operational decision-making.

What you will do:

Who you are:
