Job summary

Winpak Ltd. is seeking an Accountant to join the Accounting Team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This role focuses on general accounting, reconciliations, and financial analysis to support consolidated monthly statements.

The successful candidate will maintain GL integrity, handle journal entries, and collaborate across departments to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with quality and ISO standards.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing or multi-entity environments.
  • Experience with financial reporting, variance analysis and management reporting.
  • Skilled in accounting journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Strong communication skills across organization levels.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain integrity of financial transactions across AR, AP, inventory, and GL for multiple operations.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, reconciliations, and balance sheet work papers.
  • Perform intercompany reconciliations and intercompany invoicing.
  • Assist with year-end audit preparation and regulatory filings.

Job description

Winpak is seeking an Accountant to join our Accounting Team in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

As an Accountant, you will be responsible for a variety of daily and monthly general accounting functions, reconciliations, and financial analysis. You will play an important role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger while supporting the timely preparation of Winpak Division’s consolidated monthly financial statements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain the integrity of financial transactions across accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, and other systems interfaced with the general ledger for Canadian, U.S., and Mexican operations.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and reconciliations, including payroll, prepaids, supplier rebates, inventory, accruals, and departmental expenses.
  • Complete bank reconciliations for multiple bank accounts across various business reporting units.
  • Prepare inventory reconciliations, including work-in-process and volume variances, and record related journal entries.
  • Reconcile monthly sales reports from COGNOS to the general ledger and investigate discrepancies.
  • Prepare monthly working papers and balance sheet reconciliations and assist with year-end audit preparation.
  • Reconcile intercompany and related-party accounts, including preparing and processing periodic intercompany invoices.
  • Review general ledger activity and departmental expenditures, identify errors or variances, and provide explanations and recommendations as required.
  • Prepare financial and management reports, including operating trends, gross margin analysis, inventory volume/turns, budget comparisons, and other internal and external reporting.
  • Complete U.S. state annual filings and tax payment tracking while supporting compliance with company quality, food safety, ISO 9001, SQF 2000, and TQI standards.
Required Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in accounting (Bachelor of Commerce Degree or completion of an equivalent training program in accounting)
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or multi-entity environment.
  • 3+ years of experience with financial reporting, variance analysis, and management reporting.
  • 3+ years of experience in general ledger accounting, preparing journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and supporting month-end close processes.
  • 3+ years of experience using Microsoft Office, including strong proficiency in Excel, with demonstrated skills in data management and financial analysis.
  • 2+ years of experience in a role requiring strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of an organization.
  • 1+ years of experience in a role requiring strong administrative and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with integrated accounting and manufacturing systems would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with intercompany transactions, inventory accounting, payroll accounting, and/or U.S. tax reporting is considered an asset.
Additional Information:
  • This position is 100% onsite located in Murray Industrial Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
  • There is limited bus access to this location.
