TORCH REMOTE CAMPS is seeking a Second Cook to support meal preparation and kitchen operations in a remote camp setting. You will work under the Camp Chef or First Cook, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety, and quality for camp residents.

The role requires flexibility, teamwork, and strong work ethic, with shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Accommodation and meals are provided on-site, with a focus on safety and efficient service delivery.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years cooking experience in high-volume kitchens.
  • Food Safe Level 1 certification (provincial equivalent) required.
  • Knowledge of HACCP and food safety standards.
  • Remote camp experience preferred.
  • English literacy with reading and writing competency.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and cooking hot and cold meals for large groups.
  • Support daily food prep tasks including chopping, salads, sauces, baking, and assembling meals.
  • Monitor food quality, portions, and presentation.
  • Follow HACCP and sanitation standards; ensure safety compliance.
  • Sanitize kitchen equipment and prep areas; maintain cleanliness.
  • Assist with inventory control and waste reduction; report shortages.
  • Collaborate with culinary team to meet service timelines.
  • Assist with dishwashing and campground cleaning duties as needed.

Job description

Torch is proud to offer one of the finest industrial remote camp catering services. Our range of hospitality services include work-camp staffing and management, culinary services, utility services, communications and maintenance, snow removal, event coordination and lifestyle programs.

In preparation for upcoming projects we have immediate opportunities for Second Cook's. Reporting to the Camp Chef or First Cook, the Second Cook plays a key role in meal preparation and kitchen operations. You will assist in preparing meals for camp residents while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and quality. This role requires flexibility, teamwork, and a strong work ethic.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in preparing and cooking a variety of hot and cold meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and grab-and-go) for large groups
  • Support daily food prep tasks such as chopping fruits and vegetables, preparing salads, sauces, baking, and assembling meals
  • Monitor food quality, portion sizes, and presentation
  • Follow safe food handling procedures and ensure all sanitation standards are met (HACCP compliant)
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, food prep areas, and workstations
  • Support inventory control by rotating stock, minimizing waste, and reporting shortages
  • Work collaboratively with the culinary team to meet service timelines
  • Assist with dishwashing and general camp cleaning duties when required.
  • Ensure compliance with all company and client safety protocols. Daily participation in safety requirements and meetings.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1-2 years of cooking experience in a high-volume kitchen; camp or, institutional cooking experience is preferred
  • Food Safe Level 1 certification (or provincial equivalent) required
  • Knowledge of HACCP procedures and occupational health and safety standards
  • Ability to work in a remote camp setting, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • A team-first attitude
  • Must be physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and background check
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum 1-3 years experience
  • Remote camp experience preferred
  • Literate in English language with reading and writing competency
  • Valid Food Safe Level 1
  • First Aid certification preferred
Working Conditions:
  • Remote camp setting with extended stays on-site (e.g., 28/14 rotations).
  • Accommodation and meals provided.
  • Overtime hours
