Job summary

Distress Centre Calgary is hiring for a part-time 988 National Crisis Line Responder. This on-site role operates in a 24/7 contact centre at 999 8th Street SW, Calgary. You will answer calls and texts, provide crisis intervention, and connect individuals with local resources.

The position requires a high school diploma, strong communication skills, and a willingness to obtain required certifications. Expect a supportive, mission-driven workplace with benefits and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• Volunteer crisis service experience is an asset.
• Gender-Based Analysis+ Certification or willingness to obtain before start date.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls and texts on the 988 National crisis line and provide crisis de-escalation.
• Provide compassionate, empathetic, non-judgmental crisis support.
• Provide information on community resources as needed.
• Assess suicide risk and other risks per 988 and Distress Centre procedures.
• Make follow-up calls to check on the safety of service users as needed.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of all interactions per procedures.
