Job summary

Distress Centre Calgary is seeking a part-time Staff & Volunteer Coordinator to join our People & Culture team. This role supports volunteer programs, coordinates staff recruitment, onboarding, and HR administration across the organization.

You will build engagement, track hours, maintain records, and provide general HR coordination during peak periods, contributing to a respectful, inclusive workplace and a meaningful community impact.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in HR/administration or related field.
  • Experience in administrative support, volunteer programs, recruitment, onboarding, and records management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Volunteer Program Development & Support: Help build and grow volunteer involvement across the organization, including in departments with few or no volunteers.
  • Staff Recruitment & Lifecycle Support: Support the People & Culture Partner with the full employee lifecycle from job description development through hiring to onboarding, ongoing documentation, and exit interviews.
  • Volunteer & Staff Engagement and Retention: Track hours and records, maintain the volunteer/staff database, and act as a point of contact for questions or concerns.
  • Flexible Coverage & Gap-Filling: Provide general HR/administrative coordination as needed and support to other HR colleagues during peak workload or staffing gaps.

Staff & Volunteer Coordinator

This is a Part-Time position starting as soon as possible.

Location & Hours

Work location: On-site at Distress Centre Calgary (999 8 St SW, Suite 500).

Hours: Generally, 24 hours per weekTuesday, Wednesday and Thursday weekdays, with occasional evenings or weekends as required.

The Staff & Volunteer Coordinatorplays a key roleonour People &Culture team, working closely with both the Director and People& Culture Partner to grow volunteer engagement, coordinate staff recruitment, and support HR administration across the organization.

VolunteerProgram Development & Support
  • Helpbuild and grow volunteer involvement across the organization, including in departments with few or no volunteers.
  • Source, screen, onboard, and match volunteers to the right roles.
  • Look for ways to improve and streamline our volunteerprocesses, andrecommend ways to strengthen the overall volunteer program.
Staff Recruitment & Lifecycle Support
  • Supportthe People & Culture Partner with the full employee lifecycle from job description development through hiring (postings, resume screening, interviews, reference checks) to onboarding, ongoing documentation, and exit interviews.
Volunteer & Staff EngagementandRetention
  • Track hours and records,maintainthe volunteer/staff database, and act as a point of contact for questions or concerns.
Flexible Coverage & Gap-Filling
  • Provide general HR/administrative coordination as needed and support to other HR colleagues during peak workload or staffing gaps.
What You Bring
  • A diploma in human resources, administration, social sciences, or a related community-focused field
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in administrative support, volunteer programs, recruitment, onboarding, and records management
  • Experience developing, coordinating, or supporting a volunteer program is a strong asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and keeping accurate, organized records
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, and attention to detail
  • Proven interpersonal and cultural competency skills to work effectively and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences
Additional Employment Requirements

As a condition of employment, all successful candidates are required to complete and maintain a Police Information Check. For those in direct service user-facing roles, a Vulnerable Sector Search is also required.
