Job summary

Life’s Journey Inc. in Brandon, MB is seeking an Overnight Drop-In Support Mentor for the Westman Services warming shelter. You will provide direct support to participants, build supportive relationships, and liaise with collateral agencies to ensure safe, person-centered care.

You will respond to crises, follow agency policies, and document daily shift activities while modeling professional conduct and teamwork to the care team and volunteers.

Qualifications

  • Must pass Child and Adult Abuse Registry check, criminal record check, and driver’s abstract (if required).
  • Class 5F Driver’s License and access to a safe vehicle with $2 million liability.
  • First Aid Level 1 – Emergency & CPR certification.

Responsibilities

Note: Overnight Drop-In Support Mentor assigned to be the Primary Staff on each shift will receive an additional $1.50/hr. Premium

Shift Hours:WK 1: Monday, Saturday & Sunday / WK2: Tuesday to Friday: 7:30pm-7:30am

Preference:Will be given to Female applicant

(formally known as FASD Life’s Journey Inc.) is anon-profit Social Services Agency that provides support to individuals who areimpacted by neuro-developmental disorders, including Fetal Alcohol SpectrumDisorder. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: PROGRAM MANAGER

The OvernightDrop-In Support Mentor is responsible for the ongoing direct support of theparticipants of the Overnight Warming Shelter Drop-in; ensuring all programrequirements are consistently being met. This includes participating in theongoing planning, monitoring, and communication of activities of the programparticipants.

The OvernightDrop-In Support Mentor must also demonstrate effective guidance and disciplinetechniques continuously. The Overnight Drop-In Support Mentor is expected tofollow the Personnel Policies, including Workplace Health and Safety Policies, OperationalPractices, and the goals of Life’s Journey Inc. in completing their duties.

This positionworks collaboratively with other members of the Participant Care Team includingother Overnight Drop-In Support Mentors and Program Manager. In addition to theParticipant Care Team, the Shelter Support Mentor is also responsible forensuring positive interactions with collaterals associated with theparticipants being supported.

As a Drop-in Support Mentor you will:
  • Providedirect support to participants accessing the warming shelter.
  • Build afriendly, supportive relationship which includes working with participants in apositive manner.
  • Providedirect support during meetings with collateral agencies as an agencyrepresentative in a professional manner in the course of such business.
  • Assist theparticipants during times of crisis and respond appropriately to emergencysituations.
  • Ensure that there is adequate directsupervision in identified risk areas as per support plans.
  • The OvernightDrop-In Support Mentor is responsible for following all policies and proceduresrelated to the on-duty cellular phone and panic button.
  • Completegeneral housekeeping duties, such as cleaning floors, cleaning and sanitizingbathrooms, emptying garbage’s etc.
  • Ensure thatparticipants take all their personal belongings upon exit from the shelter.
  • Attendemployee meetings to review individual performance and development.
  • Attendtraining sessions as requested and/or scheduled.
  • Communicateand report to the Shelter Care Team on developments or incidents, as requiredor requested.
  • Providetimely verbal and/or written reports of any unusual occurrences or incidents tothe Clinical Case Manager or designate.
  • Provide anappropriate role model with newer staff to ensure proper procedures and programplans are adhered to.
  • Provideaccurate documentation of Daily shift occurrences.
  • Communicatewith colleagues using the staff communication log.
  • Submit anaccurate record of shifts worked on Payworks Web Time Log In.
  • Ensure the safety and security of allindividuals, including personal safety, by actively monitoring, assessing, andconfirming that safety measures are followed.
  • Be aware of all Workplace Safety and HealthPolicies and adhere to them, report any concerns.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

RequiredQualifications
  • Basic initial requirements include a satisfactoryChild and Adult Abuse Registry check, satisfactory Criminal Record Check(vulnerable sector search), and a satisfactory Drivers’ abstract (if required).
  • Class 5F Driver’s License.
  • A safe and reliable vehicle and proofof insurance on the vehicle with $2 million liability.
  • Certification of First Aid Level 1 –Emergency & CPR.
  • Demonstrated language, writing, and comprehensionskills.
  • The ability to attend work regularly asscheduled or requested.
  • Ability to establish effectiveprofessional relationships and boundaries.
  • Demonstrate cultural knowledge andsensitivity and participate in agency training for development.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction practicesand ability to work within a harm reduction framework.

Preferred Experience

Post secondary education in socialservices is considered an asset.

Optimally, one year of experience in arelated role and supporting individuals with disabilities and experiencinghomelessness.

Experience working with individualsstruggling with addictions and mental health.

Must demonstrate guidance anddiscipline techniques.
