Job summary

Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) invites qualified teachers to join the Secondary Occasional Teacher list. Occasional teachers support classrooms across Perth and Huron Counties, providing instruction in grades 9–12 and stepping into long‑term or permanent roles as opportunities arise.

Applicants must be in good standing with OCT or pursuing OCT certification, with English proficiency and a current Vulnerable Sector Check. Flexible scheduling and board collaboration are emphasized.

Qualifications

• OCT in good standing or on track for OCT certification.
• Or currently enrolled in B.Ed./Consecon Ed progressing toward OCT.
• English proficiency required for instruction in English board.

Responsibilities

• Teach as part of the Secondary Occasional Teacher pool across AMDSB schools.
• Maintain classroom discipline and manage last‑minute deviations from planned lessons.
• Collaborate with school teams and staff within Perth and Huron Counties.

Who can Apply:

• Candidates in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT), Year 5 and/or 6 of Concurrent Ed, Year 1 and/or 2 of Consecutive Ed

Please note:

• Retired teachers in good standing with OCT must apply to the Secondary Emergency List
• Applicants in Year 1-4 of Concurrent Ed must apply to the Secondary Emergency List

Location: Clinton, Exeter, Goderich, Listowel, Mitchell, Stratford, St. Mary's, Wingham

Start Date: Immediately

Work Schedule: 10 Months/Year (September-June) as required.

Rate of Pay: $294.68 daily rate, as of September 1, 2026.

Position Summary:

The AMDSB is currently seeking teachers for our Secondary Occasional Teacher list. Secondary Occasional Teachers work in a variety of schools throughout the AMDSB Region (Perth and Huron Counties).

Whether you are seeking the flexibility provided by occasional teaching or opportunities to move into long-term assignments or permanent teaching positions, joining the Secondary Occasional Teaching list is a great first step.

Requirements:

• Good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (or with an application for OCT Certification in progress); OR currently registered in a Bachelor of Education program leading to OCT Certification OR awaiting certification with OCT;
• As we are an English board, oral and written English proficiency is required;
• Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (dated within six months);
• Occasional Teachers must be available for half or single day occasional teacher coverage on last minute notice;
• Proven ability to maintain discipline in the classroom (classroom management);
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment;
• Experience working with G-Suite (Gmail, Google Classroom, Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.) products.
