Ensure that vehicle design integrates both ergonomic excellence and advanced occupant protection by applying human factors engineering and safety engineering principles across all development stages. This role bridges occupant comfort and usability with crashworthiness and regulatory safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze cabin layout, occupant posture, and restraint system placement for optimal usability and protection.
- Evaluate structural designs, seating geometry, ingress/egress, and control interfaces for ergonomic comfort and safety performance.
- Create and interpret digital human models and crash simulations using DHM and CAE tools to predict reach, vision, posture, injury metrics, and structural integrity.
- Conduct physical and virtual evaluations using anthropometric subjects and ATDs (crash dummies) to validate ergonomic comfort and safety under various scenarios.
- Translate test results and user feedback into actionable improvements for seat design, restraint systems, HMI layout, and safety components.
- Define and maintain compliance guidelines based on ergonomic standards (SAE, ISO) and safety regulations (FMVSS, Euro NCAP, IIHS).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including interior design, HMI, vehicle architecture, and structural engineering, to embed human-centered and safety-first principles in the vehicle platform.
- Ergonomic and safety evaluation reports with integrated design recommendations.
- Digital and physical mock-ups for ergonomic and crash validation.
- Validation documents on occupant comfort, usability, injury metrics, and crash performance.
- Guidelines for adjustability (seating, controls) and system integration (restraints, airbags, HMI).
- Technical documents for compliance, certification, and design reviews.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Human Factors, Safety Engineering, Ergonomics, or related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in vehicle ergonomics and/or safety engineering.
- Proficiency in tools such as LS-DYNA, MADYMO, CATIA DHM, Siemens Jack, RAMSIS, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of biomechanics, anthropometry, crash dynamics, and human-machine interaction.
- Experience in physical testing (ergonomics and/or crash) and CAD model interpretation.
- Solid collaboration and communication skills in cross-functional environments.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Preferred:
- Master’s degree or specialization in Biomechanics, Human Factors, or Structural Analysis.
- Experience with inclusive design principles and vulnerable user groups.
- Familiarity with VR/AR tools for ergonomic and safety validation.
- Knowledge of ADAS and autonomous vehicle interior and safety challenges.
