This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Back-end Developer (Java + Node.js) based in Brazil.

We are looking for an experienced back-end developer to design, build, and maintain scalable, high-performance services supporting applications used by millions of people. In this role, you will contribute to the architecture and development of new solutions from the ground up, balancing product delivery with technical excellence. You will work primarily with Java, Spring Boot, and Node.js in a cloud-native environment, leveraging AWS, microservices, and modern engineering practices. Quality, security, observability, and automated testing will be central to your work. You will collaborate closely with Product and Front-end teams, bringing autonomy, problem-solving skills, and a strong focus on business outcomes. Accountabilities

• Back-end Development and Architecture: Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable back-end services using Java and Node.js, including Backend for Frontend (BFF) layers, supporting high-transaction-volume applications.
• Solution Design and Implementation: Lead technical development from initial conception through production delivery, building new features and services while balancing business priorities with technical debt reduction.
• Code Quality and Automated Testing: Maintain a healthy, sustainable codebase by applying Clean Code, SOLID principles, design patterns, and comprehensive unit and integration testing practices.
• Cloud Infrastructure and Microservices: Develop and operate cloud-based solutions using AWS, containerization, and microservices architectures to support scalability, resilience, and maintainability.
• APIs and Asynchronous Communication: Design, implement, and consume RESTful APIs while working with MongoDB and asynchronous messaging technologies such as AWS SQS.
• Observability and Security: Monitor application performance in production, improve system observability and resilience, and implement appropriate API security and data protection practices.
• AI-Enabled Engineering: Integrate generative AI assistants into daily development workflows to accelerate coding, testing, documentation, and problem-solving while maintaining high standards of quality and security.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product and Front-end teams to translate requirements into effective technical solutions, communicate trade-offs, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Technical Innovation: Contribute to the evolution of engineering practices, proactively resolve complex technical challenges, and recommend improvements that enhance performance, reliability, and business value.

Requirements

• Professional Experience: Extensive back-end development experience, with a proven track record of leading technical deliveries end to end and building solutions from scratch.
• Java and Spring Boot: Strong proficiency in Java, including recent versions such as Java 21 and Java 25, and hands-on experience with the Spring Boot framework.
• Node.js and BFF: Practical experience with Node.js and JavaScript, particularly in developing and maintaining Backend for Frontend (BFF) layers.
• Databases and Messaging: Experience with MongoDB and asynchronous messaging systems such as AWS SQS.
• Cloud and Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• API Development and Architecture: Strong knowledge of RESTful API design and integration, microservices architecture, and software design patterns.
• Testing and Engineering Practices: Consistent experience writing and maintaining automated unit and integration tests, with a strong commitment to clean, maintainable, and reliable code.
• Generative AI Tools: Active use of AI-powered coding assistants and generative AI tools, such as Kiro, Amazon Q, or equivalent solutions, to improve software development productivity.
• Autonomy and Communication: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrate initiative, solve complex problems, and communicate effectively while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

The following qualifications are considered advantageous:

• Experience developing back-end features, automation workflows, or intelligent agents integrated with AI technologies, including solutions using Google ADK or similar frameworks.
• Knowledge of secure data handling and privacy practices when working with AI-powered solutions.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, particularly with GitLab CI.
• A product-oriented mindset, with the ability to connect technical decisions to customer needs and broader business objectives.
