Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a backend engineer to build and maintain scalable Rails APIs powering a large-scale healthcare benefits platform serving Brazil and Mexico. You will work across the full SDLC, emphasizing performance, reliability, and cloud deployments in a remote setup.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment, contributing to monolith and microservices initiatives, with a focus on code quality and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Proven professional experience building Rails applications and maintaining production systems.
• Strong REST API design, documentation, integration, and consumption skills.
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL, relational modeling, and query optimization.
• Proficient with Git and GitHub for version control and collaboration.
• Familiarity with automated testing using RSpec and unit/integration/black-box approaches.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and evolve scalable RESTful APIs using Ruby on Rails.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle including testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Support microservices initiatives and integrations with external partners (ERP, payment gateways).
• Maintain high engineering standards with code reviews and SOLID practices.
• Monitor and optimize application performance with APM tools and query tuning.

You will contribute throughout the software development lifecycle, from architectural decisions and implementation to automated testing, deployment, and production monitoring. Working with Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and cloud technologies, you will help improve system performance, scalability, and resilience. Accountabilities

• Develop, maintain, and evolve scalable, resilient RESTful APIs using Ruby on Rails.
• Participate in the complete software development lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, automated testing, deployment, and production monitoring.
• Contribute to the evolution of the core monolithic application while supporting microservices initiatives and integrations with external partners, including ERP systems, payment gateways, and third-party platforms.
• Maintain high engineering standards through code reviews, Clean Code principles, SOLID practices, and adherence to team development guidelines.
• Monitor and optimize application performance using application performance monitoring tools, resource tuning, query analysis, and database optimization techniques.
• Develop and maintain automated tests to ensure software reliability, prevent regressions, and support continuous delivery.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams using agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban, working closely with engineering and product stakeholders.
• Navigate related technology areas when needed, including TypeScript and mobile development workflows, to maintain a broader understanding of the product.
• Take ownership of technical decisions, delivery quality, and production stability, ensuring that developed solutions remain reliable and maintainable.

Requirements

• Proven professional experience developing applications with Ruby on Rails, with the technical maturity to work independently on production systems.
• Strong knowledge of REST API design, documentation, integration, and consumption.
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL, relational database modeling, and query optimization.
• Proficiency with Git and GitHub for version control and collaborative development.
• Strong familiarity with automated testing practices, including RSpec and unit, integration, and black-box testing approaches.
• Practical experience working with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS.
• A strong sense of ownership, with autonomy, initiative, accountability, and a focus on delivering measurable business value.
• Commitment to code quality, maintainability, performance, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in an agile development environment.
• Willingness to work with related technologies and understand the product beyond the immediate backend scope.

The following qualifications are considered an advantage:

• Experience designing microservices architectures and implementing messaging solutions such as AWS SNS and SQS.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with NoSQL databases, caching, and queueing technologies such as Redis, DocumentDB, and DynamoDB.
• Knowledge of CI/CD practices and tools such as GitHub Actions and Argo CD.
• Spanish proficiency, which is beneficial but not required.
