Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer for a fully remote role based in Brazil. You will build and evolve backend services, APIs, and microservices to support large-scale digital transformation across mobile, web, kiosks, and conversational AI.

You will lead technical refinement, mentor teammates, and own delivery of critical backend initiatives. You will work closely with Product, Design, Engineering, and client teams, balancing hands-on coding (≈70%) with technical leadership

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer based in Brazil.

Join a fully remote technology team focused on transforming complex customer experiences through modern digital solutions. As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will build and evolve backend services, APIs, and microservices supporting a large-scale digital transformation project across multiple channels, including mobile applications, web portals, self-service kiosks, and conversational AI services. This hands-on role combines software engineering excellence with day-to-day technical leadership, architectural decision-making, and delivery planning. You will help teams navigate technical challenges, coordinate production incident responses, and ensure reliable solutions reach customers. Working closely with Product, Design, Engineering, and client teams, you will also mentor colleagues and promote continuous improvement. The role offers significant autonomy in a collaborative environment that values ownership, technical depth, and practical innovation.

Accountabilities

• Develop, test, instrument, document, and maintain backend microservices and APIs, ensuring reliability, scalability, and maintainability.

• Contribute to architecture and system design decisions, evaluate alternative approaches, and clearly communicate technical trade-offs.

• Lead or support technical refinement and planning sessions, identifying dependencies, risks, and implementation strategies.

• Break down complex initiatives into smaller, manageable deliverables and support the team in tracking execution and progress.

• Resolve technical blockers, facilitate decision-making, and coordinate risks and dependencies across different project workstreams.

• Coordinate responses to incidents affecting live systems, bringing the relevant stakeholders together and tracking corrective actions through resolution.

• Support continuity of technical coordination when the tech lead is unavailable to oversee a particular workstream.

• Mentor junior engineers through collaborative problem-solving, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and constructive feedback.

• Work closely with Product, Design, Engineering, and client teams to develop solutions that deliver measurable customer and business value.

• Contribute to continuous integration and delivery practices, infrastructure as code, and improvements to engineering workflows.

• Use generative AI tools to support software development while critically reviewing, testing, and validating generated outputs.

• Balance hands-on engineering responsibilities with technical leadership, spending approximately 70% of the time on implementation and 30% on technical refinement, planning, and team support.

Requirements

• Professional experience in backend software development, including building, maintaining, and evolving APIs and microservices.

• Strong experience with TypeScript and Node.js, or demonstrated ability to work independently with equivalent technologies and adapt quickly to a new technical stack.

• Experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.

• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Cloud Functions.

• Knowledge of REST APIs and GraphQL.

• Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) practices and infrastructure as code.

• Ability to participate in and guide architecture and system design discussions, make sound technical decisions, and investigate complex problems independently.

• Experience supporting production systems, including coordinating incident responses, investigating root causes, and following corrective actions through completion.

• Practical use of generative AI tools in software engineering, with the judgment to review, test, and validate their outputs before implementation.

• Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with professionals across different disciplines and seniority levels.

• Strong ownership, autonomy, and problem-solving skills, combined with a commitment to code quality and continuous learning.

• Willingness to support colleagues, share technical context, and help maintain delivery momentum without formal people-management responsibilities.

Nice to have:

• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure or an interest in expanding expertise in the platform.

• Experience building solutions powered by Large Language Models (LLMs) or conversational agents.

• Experience developing digital products across multiple channels, such as mobile applications, web portals, and self-service kiosks.

• Knowledge of React Native, React, or Next.js to collaborate with frontend and mobile development teams.

• Experience in public services, utilities, or complex customer-facing journeys.
