Payroll Specialist - AMER SP FTC 12 Months

Wise is a global technology company building a platform to move and manage the world’s money.

We are hiring a 12‑month fixed‑term Payroll Specialist based in São Paulo/SP to join our global Payroll Team.

Reporting to the Payroll Lead, you will have above‑average understanding of payroll across the AMER region with a focus on LATAM, and will be responsible for accurate, effective, and timely processing of payroll each pay period.

Your mission

The role is part of the overall global payroll process, including compliance, internal audit, and reconciliation across multiple countries. You will complete daily, weekly, monthly, annual and ad‑hoc tasks to ensure payrolls are processed in accordance with deadlines.

You will support the payroll application, Cloudpay, and strive for accuracy and efficiency. You will develop robust processes, participate in global projects, pre‑post payroll journals, internal audits, and provide input on team goals, KPIs and process improvements.

The specifics
  • You will be working as part of a wider Global Payroll Team, servicing 25+ countries using Workday (HRIS), while focusing on our AMER & LATAM based Wisers.
  • You will prepare, double‑check, cross‑check, review and analyze payroll inputs according to established deadlines.
  • You will be fully responsible for ensuring the timely submission of payroll inputs to our third‑party provider.
  • You will partner with your Lead to recommend new approaches, policy and procedure changes towards continuous improvement.
  • You will ensure your payrolls balance to your inputs.
  • You will be responsible for all documentation within your historical payroll files.
  • You will continue to increase subject matter expertise on your allocated locations, on all payroll and legislative matters, providing support to others as needed.
  • You will work with the Payroll team and the Lead to provide additional processing and transaction support as needed.
Compliance
  • You will ensure compliance across local payroll tax laws and meet applicable timelines efficiently.
  • You will stay current with regulation changes affecting your payrolls to ensure accuracy and service to customers.
  • You will partner to complete and respond to regulatory agency inquiries.
Financials, Audits, and Reporting
  • You will be responsible for outputs of your payrolls, such as payroll journals, GL files, and ad‑hoc reporting.
  • You will ensure all reporting and data is completed timely.

A bit about you
  • Prior AMER & LATAM payroll processing experience of at least 1‑3 years in a high‑growth, product or service‑led company.
  • Payroll skills: experience preparing, processing, correcting, and auditing most aspects of payroll.
  • Fluency in English, written and verbal.
  • Above average tech skills with Google Docs, Sheets, Excel (pivot tables, charts) and payroll software.
  • Collaborative, with a passion for building strong relationships based on trust.
  • Detail focused, with an eye for data and analytics.
  • Adaptable to ambiguity and changing priorities.
  • Curiosity to learn and grow, with a positive can‑do attitude.
  • Ability to multi‑task and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Teamwork focused, excelling in a teamwork‑oriented setting.
