Job summary

ByteDance Brazil is seeking a Head of Compliance for LATAM - Global Payment, responsible for end-to-end regulatory oversight of payments, lending, and e-money across Brazil, Mexico and LATAM. You will lead licensing strategies, engage regulators, and design a scalable risk-based framework while collaborating with Product, Legal, Risk, and Engineering to enable compliant market expansion.

Responsibilities

• Oversee LATAM compliance for payments, lending, and other regulated activities across Brazil, Mexico, and LATAM markets.
• Lead regulatory licensing strategy including applications, renewals, and supervisory obligations.
• Serve as primary regional liaison with regulators (BACEN, CNBV, SHCP, etc.).
• Design and enhance a scalable, risk-based compliance framework aligned with TikTok governance.
• Collaborate with Product, Payments, Legal, Risk, and Engineering on regulatory feasibility and market expansion.
• Monitor regulatory developments (AML/CFT, data privacy, licensing) and translate into policy and controls.
• Own regulatory examinations, audits, and remediation actions across jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the regional Head of Compliance for Latin America, with end-to-end responsibility for compliance oversight of payments, lending, commerce-enabled financial services, and other regulated financial activities across Brazil, Mexico, and emerging LATAM markets (including Chile and Argentina), reporting directly to the Head of Compliance, Global Payment.
• Lead and execute the region’s regulatory and licensing strategy, including applications (IFPE, Regulated SOFOM, EMI, SCD, etc.), renewals, and ongoing supervisory obligations for payment institutions, sub-acquiring, e-money, lending entities, merchant acquiring, wallets, FX, and other licensed activities.
• Act as the primary regional engagement lead with regulators and supervisory authorities, maintaining constructive, transparent relationships with bodies such as BACEN, CNBV, CONDUSEF, SHCP, and relevant authorities across LATAM.
• Design, implement, and continuously enhance a scalable, risk-based compliance framework that aligns local regulatory requirements with TikTok’s global governance, control, and risk management standards.
• Partner closely with regional and global stakeholders across Product, Payments, Lending, Business Development, Legal, Risk, Operations, and Engineering to advise on regulatory feasibility, product readiness, and compliant market expansion strategies.
• Maintain deep awareness of regulatory developments across LATAM—including AML/CFT, consumer protection, data privacy, licensing, prudential requirements, and operational resilience. Ability to translate evolving requirements into practical policies, controls, and operational guidance.
• Own regulatory examinations, audits, and supervisory reviews across jurisdictions, including preparation and submission of materials, senior-level regulatory interactions, remediation planning, and ongoing monitoring of corrective actions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive compliance experience within payments companies, financial institutions, fintech platforms, lending businesses, professional services firms, or regulatory bodies, with demonstrated responsibility at a senior or regional level.
• Deep familiarity with the Latin American regulatory landscape, particularly in Brazil and Mexico, and working knowledge of regulatory frameworks in additional markets such as Chile and Argentina.
• Extensive experience with financial services licensing and supervision, including payment institutions, sub-acquiring, e-money, lending, merchant acquiring, wallets, FX, and commerce-related regulated activities.
• Demonstrated ability to engage credibly and effectively with regulators and supervisory authorities, including proven experience in obtaining licenses in LATAM, managing examinations, inspections, regulatory inquiries, and ongoing supervisory relationships; prior experience within a Latin American regulatory authority is a strong advantage.
• Strong command of AML/CFT regulatory frameworks and enforcement expectations, including local LATAM regulations and global standards such as FATF and Wolfsberg.
• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, Economics, or related field; advanced degree or specialization in financial regulation strongly preferred.
