This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engenheiro de Software (Pleno) based in Brazil.

In this role, you will contribute to the development and evolution of scalable backend systems that power digital commerce, payment processing, and fraud prevention across Latin America. You will design, build, and maintain microservices and APIs, taking ownership of complex technical challenges from conception through production. Working in a remote, collaborative, and fast-paced environment, you will partner with business stakeholders and engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions. You will play an active role in production monitoring, incident resolution, and continuous improvement, ensuring services remain stable, secure, and efficient. You will also help shape technical priorities, strengthen engineering standards, and promote a culture of quality through thoughtful code reviews and comprehensive testing. By integrating generative AI into your development workflow responsibly, you will help improve productivity while protecting sensitive data and maintaining high standards of code quality.

Accountabilities

• Backend development and microservices: Design, develop, and evolve backend microservices, taking independent ownership of complex tasks involving both technical implementation and business requirements.
• Production support and reliability: Investigate and resolve production issues autonomously, escalating only when incidents are urgent or require specialized expertise. Build and maintain metrics, alerts, and monitoring tools to ensure service availability, performance, and operational stability.
• API design and system integration: Design robust APIs and develop solutions with cross-team implications, identifying dependencies, anticipating integration challenges, and coordinating with other engineering teams to deliver consistent outcomes.
• Business collaboration and technical decision-making: Work closely with business stakeholders to understand priorities, challenge assumptions constructively, and recommend alternative solutions based on domain knowledge, technical constraints, and application architecture.
• Technical planning and backlog management: Contribute to identifying technical debt, prioritizing engineering improvements, and building and maintaining the technical backlog to support sustainable development and long-term system evolution.
• Code quality and engineering standards: Act as a reference for code quality, maintainability, performance, and reliability. Conduct thorough code reviews that emphasize testing strategies, edge cases, scenario coverage, and constructive feedback.
• Responsible use of generative AI: Evaluate the impact of AI-assisted development on code quality and project maintainability. Promote effective prompting, critical review of AI-generated code, and responsible handling of confidential information and proprietary source code.
• Mentoring and knowledge sharing: Support less experienced engineers by sharing best practices, encouraging sound technical decisions, and reinforcing security guidelines for using AI tools in software development.

Requirements

• Professional experience: At least four years of professional software development experience, with a strong background in backend engineering and delivering production-ready applications.
• Java and Spring: Solid hands-on experience developing backend systems with Java and the Spring ecosystem.
• API design and distributed systems: Experience designing APIs and implementing solutions that affect multiple teams, services, or components within a broader software architecture.
• Production monitoring and troubleshooting: Practical experience supporting production environments, analyzing logs, correlating errors, and using monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog, New Relic, or equivalent platforms.
• Performance and reliability: Demonstrated ability to deliver efficient, scalable, maintainable code that minimizes production incidents and supports reliable service operation.
• Autonomy and ownership: Ability to take responsibility for tasks with incomplete or evolving requirements, organize work independently, make sound technical decisions, and anticipate risks before they affect delivery.
• Communication and collaboration: Clear communication skills for technical discussions and interactions with business stakeholders, combined with a constructive approach to differing opinions and cross-functional problem-solving.
• Generative AI proficiency: Regular use of generative AI tools in software development, including effective prompting techniques, critical evaluation of generated code, and an understanding of the limitations and risks of AI-assisted programming.
• Code security and responsible AI practices: Awareness of data privacy, information security, and intellectual property considerations when using AI tools, including the ability to identify sensitive data and proprietary code that must not be shared.
